Lovato RF826500 46-65 A Thermal Overload Relay

Description

Thermal overload protection for motors drawing 46-65 A

The RF826500 is a three-pole thermal motor protection relay of the Lovato Electric RF82 family with an adjustment range of 46-65 A. It watches the motor current in all three phases, trips on overload and on phase failure, and reports the state with a trip indicator and a test button.

Tripping class is 10A, the reset mode is manual, and the auxiliary contact block provides 1 NO and 1 NC for the control circuit. Insulation voltage is 690 V.

Choosing the setting range

Pick the range so the nameplate current is not at the extreme of the dial; the 46-65 A window here is meant for motors in that band, and the class 10A characteristic applies.

Short-circuit protection is separate: the datasheet quotes 125 A gG and 80 A aM as maximum fuse sizes for this relay.

Mounting and use

Typical use is the overload protection leg of a direct-on-line starter for pumps, fans and conveyors. The NC auxiliary contact opens the contactor coil circuit on a trip and the NO contact can drive an alarm.

Terminals are Yoke clamp. Operating and storage temperature limits are in the table; if the relay sits in a hotter place than the motor, set the dial with that in mind.

For panel design and commissioning, the practical figures to keep at hand are: terminals type Yoke clamp; terminals screw M5; terminals width 9 mm; terminals tool Phillips 2; auxiliary circuit type screw and washer; auxiliary circuit screw M3,5; auxiliary circuit width 8 mm; auxiliary circuit tool Phillips 1; operating temperature (min) -20 °C; operating temperature (max) 55 °C; storage temperature (min) -55 °C; storage temperature (max) 80 °C; max altitude 3000 m; operating position, normal Vertical plan. These come straight from the datasheet and are repeated here so that the key installation limits are visible without opening the PDF.

About brand

Lovato Electric is the Italian manufacturer of low-voltage electrical components for industrial automation and power distribution: contactors, motor protection circuit breakers, soft starters, variable speed drives, power factor controllers, transfer switch and generator controllers, and energy meters. It was founded in Bergamo in 1922 and has been run by the same family for four generations. Its headquarters is in Gorle, near Bergamo, and it celebrated its centenary in 2022.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Lovato motor control, drives and power management products, and supply them to panel builders, contractors and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC by order code.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.

Where Lovato products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Lovato components are built into motor control centres, pump and HVAC panels, capacitor banks for power factor correction, generator and ATS panels, and machine control panels for industry, water and buildings.
