Current ratings and installation size
ABB gives 5.3 A (2.2 kW) for light overload use and 4 A (1.5 kW) for heavy duty, against a nominal 5.6 A and a peak of 6.8 A. Light overload suits pumps and fans, whose torque falls with speed, while heavy duty is the choice for crushers, extruders and conveyors that need high starting torque. Start from the motor nameplate current, then verify derating for temperature, altitude and switching frequency.
Frame R1 in IP21: height 409 mm including the cable box and 370 mm without, width 155 mm, depth 226 mm, mass 7 kg. For harsher rooms ABB offers IP55 at 450 x 162 x 292 mm and 8.1 kg. Allow 78 W of heat loss, 44 m3/h of air flow and a sound level of 50 dB(A) in cabinet and room planning.
Braking, filters and options
Dynamic braking: chopper built in as standard (frames R1 to R4); resistor JBR-03 (80 ohm, 40 kJ, 0.14 kW continuous); minimum 78 ohm at 2.2 kW. Order +E202 for a C2 filter, +E200 for C3 or +E201 for IT networks; the standard drive meets C4 on grounded networks. The catalogue’s sine filter for this size is B84143V0006R229, rated 5.3 A, for step-up and long-cable duty.
Standard I/O is 6 digital inputs, 2 DIO, 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs and 3 relay outputs, plus STO and the RS485 link. Three option slots take fieldbus adapters, I/O extensions, feedback modules and a safety functions module.

Documentation and ordering
The ratings, dimensions, brake and filter data were read from the ACS880 single drives catalogue 3AUA0000098111, which is linked, and ABB’s page for the ACS880-01-05A6-3. Seven Star LLC supplies the ACS880-01-05A6-3 on request from Muscat; availability and lead time are stated in the quotation. Confirm before ordering: plus codes, motor current, enclosure class, filters, brake resistor and derating for temperature and altitude. More sizes sit in AC drives, and the ABB ACS580 page covers the general purpose family.

About brand
ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive
ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.
Where ABB products are used
In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
