ABB ACS580-01-026A-4 AC Drive 11 kW 25 A

Description

Frame R2 ACS580 drive rated 25 A

Typical motor power of 11 kW, 25 A nominal current and a 125 x 229 mm frame R2 base describe the ACS580-01-026A-4, one rating in ABB’s ACS580-01 line for 380 to 480 V networks. 11 kW is the upper end of frame R2 and a frequent rating for process pumps, larger fans and conveyor headers, with 25 A of nominal current at 400 V.

All ACS580-01 drives share a control platform with scalar and vector control and support for induction, permanent magnet and synchronous reluctance motors. The package includes a built-in choke, EMC filter and STO. Related products are in AC drives and on the ABB ACS580 drive page.

Selection notes for 11 kW on frame R2

Start from the motor nameplate. If it shows up to 23.8 A and the load is a pump or fan, light duty applies; for crushers, mixers or conveyors that see peaks, use the 17 A heavy-duty figure, good for about 25.5 A during a one-minute overload. At 480 V the same drive gives 23 A light duty and 14 A heavy duty.

Input fuses: 32 A gG for IEC, 30 A Class T for UL. The unit dissipates about 380 W, so a cabinet must remove that heat; the fans move 101 m3/h (59 ft3/min) and are rated at no more than 66 dBA. Motor cables up to 200 m are recommended. One size down is ACS580-01-018A-4 at 7.5 kW; one size up is ACS580-01-033A-4 at 15 kW.

Decoding ACS580-01-026A-4 and adding options

Reading ACS580-01-026A-4: ACS580 names the series; 01 means wall-mounted; 026A is the rating field taken from the ratings table; the final 4 selects 380 to 480 V. Optional features are appended, for example +B056 for an IP55 / UL Type 12 unit, +B063 for IP66 / UL Type 4X, +F278 for an integrated main switch, +E223 for an integrated C1 filter, +C135 for flange mounting or +P944 to remove the conduit box on frames R5 to R9.

Frame R2 in IP55 form is 503 x 128 x 239 mm. IP66 / UL Type 4X (+B063) measures 606 x 208 x 260 mm, 14.5 kg. For communications, the catalogue shows slot-mounted adapters: PROFIBUS DP via FPBA-01, Modbus RTU via FSCA-01, EtherNet/IP via FEIP-21 and Modbus/TCP via FMBT-21, ordered by the +K codes above.

Key features of the ACS580-01-026A-4

  • 11 kW / 25 A nominal rating at 400 V in a compact frame R2 wall-mounted unit.
  • Scalar and vector control for induction, permanent magnet and synchronous reluctance motors.
  • Built-in choke and EMC filter, reducing the need for external components.
  • Safe Torque Off (STO) as standard.
  • Maximum recommended motor cable length of 200 m.
  • IP21 / UL Type 1 enclosure as standard.

Typical applications

The ACS580 general purpose drive is commonly used for centrifugal pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors. At 11 kW, typical examples are booster pumps in buildings and water networks, cooling tower fans, air handling units and process conveyors. For variable-torque loads such as pumps and fans, energy savings at reduced speed are usually the main benefit of a drive.

Installation and cooling

The drive dissipates around 380 W at rated load and needs a cooling air flow of 101 m³/h. In a cabinet, ventilation or cooling must remove this heat and keep the air inlet within ABB’s allowed temperature range; above the nominal ambient, ABB specifies derating which should be checked in the hardware manual. Leave the free space above and below the drive given in the manual, and do not block the air inlet.

Wiring practice

  • Use symmetrical shielded motor cable and terminate the shield 360° at the drive and motor.
  • Keep motor cables separate from control and communication cables.
  • Fit the recommended input fuses (32 A gG for IEC installations).
  • Wire STO according to the safety function required by the machine risk assessment.

Conditions in Oman and the GCC

High ambient temperatures, dust and humidity are the main challenges for drives in the region. The IP21 enclosure is intended for clean indoor locations; in dusty plant rooms or outdoors, install the drive in a suitable enclosure with filtered ventilation or air conditioning, and clean the heatsink and fan regularly. Check the derating for ambient temperature and, at higher altitude sites, for altitude.

What to include in your RFQ

Please state the type ACS580-01-026A-4, the quantity, and any option codes you need, such as fieldbus adapters, I/O extensions or a different enclosure class. Include the motor data, the application and the delivery location so we can confirm the selection.

Commissioning notes

The ACS580 uses an assistant control panel with start-up assistants that guide the user through motor nameplate data, macros and I/O. Enter the motor data exactly, run the identification routine where the load allows, and set ramp times, speed limits and the control source before handing over the drive.

Documents and RFQ

Figures on this page come from ABB’s ACS580 catalogue (3AUA0000145061), which you can open from the document link. To request the ACS580-01-026A-4, send Seven Star LLC your motor data, voltage, enclosure and communication needs; availability and lead time are stated in the quotation.

Before ordering, confirm the full type code with options, the motor current on your supply, and site temperature and altitude, because the published ratings assume 40 degrees C and up to 1000 m.

About brand

ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.

ABB product families on this page

Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.

Where ABB instruments and drives are used

Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.

Ordering ABB parts: what we need

For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
