Pfannenberg PWS 7102 230V Air/Water Heat Exchanger, 950 W
Description
PWS 7102 230V air/water heat exchanger: decoded part number
The PWS 7102 230V is a compact air/water heat exchanger for control cabinets in which cooling water is available. Warm cabinet air is blown over a water-cooled coil, so the heat leaves the cabinet in the water circuit rather than in the room air, and the enclosure stays sealed.
Decoded: PWS = side-mounted air/water heat exchanger, 7102 = the 950 W model of the slim 7000 range, 230V = single-phase 230 V supply. The order number is 12051010055.

How the PWS 7102 230V works
Inside the unit a fan circulates cabinet air through a copper-and-aluminium coil that is fed with cold water. A built-in thermostat controls a solenoid valve in the water line, so water flows only when the cabinet needs cooling, which saves water and avoids overcooling and condensation.
An integrated temperature monitor with an alarm contact reports a fault to the machine controller. The unit is described as maintenance-free, and a mounting-friendly seal means that the cut-out does not need elaborate reworking.
Because there is no refrigerant circuit, there is no compressor and no condenser fan; the cooling capacity depends on the water temperature and flow rate. The 950 W is stated at 10 °C inlet water, 35 °C air and 200 l/h.

Selection and ordering checklist for the PWS 7102 230V
Before ordering the PWS 7102 230V, settle the following points so that the right variant is quoted:
- Cooling water available at the cabinet: temperature up to +35 °C, 10 bar max, flow near 200 l/h
- Heat load of the cabinet compared with 950 W at 10 °C water
- Condensate route: condensate drain
- Supply 230 V or 115 V
- Mounting inside or outside of the enclosure
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the PWS 7102 230V
Install in the cut-out with the seal supplied by the manufacturer and connect the water through 13 mm hose nozzles. Use hoses suited to the pressure and temperature, and install shut-off valves so the unit can be taken out of service without draining the whole circuit.
Vent the water circuit before start-up and set the temperature setpoint at the integrated thermostat (factory +35 °C). Check the alarm contact wiring.
- Check the water circuit for leaks at hose clamps
- Clean the coil from dust, and check the condensate drain
- Check water quality: scale and particulates can block a small solenoid valve
- Test the alarm contact periodically
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
Air/water heat exchangers are used where a cold-water loop exists and the cabinet air is dirty, hot or wet: chilled-water or cooling-tower circuits at power stations, desalination plants, refineries and machine halls. Because the heat leaves in the water, the cabinet stays closed to the dusty and salty air that many sites in Oman and the GCC have.
At 950 W the PWS 7102 is aimed at smaller panels or at hot spots. Remember that water quality in a seawater-cooled site matters: do not connect the unit to untreated seawater.

Site conditions in Oman for the PWS 7102 230V
Panel cooling in Oman is sized for the worst case, not the average day. Summer shade temperatures in Muscat, Sohar and the interior regularly pass 45 °C, and a cabinet standing in direct sun gains further heat through its walls. When you size the PWS 7102 230V, add the internal losses of drives, power supplies and PLCs to the solar and wall gain, and compare the total with the useful cooling capacity at your real ambient and target cabinet temperature, rather than with a nominal figure stated at milder test conditions.
Coastal sites near Duqm, Salalah or Sur also bring humidity and salt-laden dust. Keep door seals intact, route the condensate drain away from live parts, and plan routine filter and coil cleaning so that the PWS 7102 230V keeps its rated performance through the long summer season.

About brand
Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.
