Pfannenberg DTS 3081 230V LAP NEMA 4X Cooling Unit, 694 W
Description
DTS 3081 230V LAP cooling unit: decoded part number
The DTS 3081 230V LAP is a compact NEMA 4/4X cooling unit with a stainless-steel 304 housing for hot spots in small enclosures and for cabinets in wash-down or outdoor situations. The LAP version carries a low-ambient package, so the unit can be used in cold climates as well as in hot ones.
Decoded: DTS = side-mount, 3081 = NEMA 4/4X compact class of about 694 W (the 3061 is the NEMA 3R/4 twin), 230V = single-phase 230 V and LAP = Low Ambient Package. The article number is 13382341178.

How the DTS 3081 230V LAP works
As in other Pfannenberg cooling units, a hermetic refrigeration circuit cools the internal air, and the heat is rejected through a separate external air path. The condenser fin spacing of 3 mm and fully coated heat exchangers and tubing make the unit tolerant of heavily contaminated air, which is the reason it is described as suitable for the food-and-beverage industry and for outdoor use.
The LAP package solves the low-temperature start problem: at low ambient the heater and thermostat warm the enclosure so that the compressor and the electronics remain in their safe operating range.
The unit must be selected for the enclosure rating: the stainless 4/4X version maintains a UL-tested NEMA 4/4X seal against the enclosure, whereas the 3R/4 version is for less demanding conditions.
Fit in the system and related Pfannenberg parts
The DTS 3000 family covers 694 to 2000 W in the NEMA 3R/4 and 4/4X versions. This 694 W unit is the smallest; the DTS 3181 gives 1140 to 1235 W and the DTS 3281 1900 to 2000 W.
- Standard version without LAP: article 13382341300 (230 V)
- 115 V 60 Hz versions: 13382344300 (SC) and 13382344178 (LAP)
- NEMA 3R/4 version DTS 3061: for example 13382341355 (230 V, SC)
- The sheet lists a condensate drain for this size, so provide a drain path or hose for the water
Selection and ordering checklist for the DTS 3081 230V LAP
Before ordering the DTS 3081 230V LAP, settle the following points so that the right variant is quoted:
- Heat load; 428 W at A35/A50 is the working figure for hot sites
- Cabinet size: the sheet states suitability for enclosures of 400 mm or less in depth
- Whether LAP is needed (cold climate) or the standard version is enough
- NEMA 4/4X stainless versus NEMA 3R/4 housing
- Supply 230 V or 115 V and available drain arrangements
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the DTS 3081 230V LAP
The housing is mounted on the outside of the cabinet through a cut-out; use stainless-steel fasteners and a proper seal where the unit sees wash-down or outdoor exposure. This size is listed with a condensate drain, so the drain path must be arranged properly.
If LAP is fitted, place the thermostat inside the enclosure away from direct airflow so it senses the average cabinet temperature, and wire the 900 W heater according to the manual.
- Rinse or brush the condenser regularly; 3 mm fin spacing resists clogging but does not eliminate it
- Check that the drain remains clear
- Inspect seals and fasteners for corrosion
- Use qualified personnel for the refrigerant circuit
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
A NEMA 4/4X stainless unit is the choice for outdoor instrument cabinets, offshore decks, wash-down areas and corrosive atmospheres near the coast, where a painted steel unit would not last. In the Gulf the high salt content of the air makes stainless 304 attractive for cabinets near the shore.
At 694 W it cools small junction boxes, analyser cabinets and PLC panels, or hot spots within a larger enclosure. For loads above 1 kW, look to the DTS 3181 or DTS 3281.

Site conditions in Oman for the DTS 3081 230V LAP
Panel cooling in Oman is sized for the worst case, not the average day. Summer shade temperatures in Muscat, Sohar and the interior regularly pass 45 °C, and a cabinet standing in direct sun gains further heat through its walls. When you size the DTS 3081 230V LAP, add the internal losses of drives, power supplies and PLCs to the solar and wall gain, and compare the total with the useful cooling capacity at your real ambient and target cabinet temperature, rather than with a nominal figure stated at milder test conditions.
Coastal sites near Duqm, Salalah or Sur also bring humidity and salt-laden dust. Keep door seals intact, route the condensate drain away from live parts, and plan routine filter and coil cleaning so that the DTS 3081 230V LAP keeps its rated performance through the long summer season.

About brand
Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.
