Brand:

JUMO favoTRON 116/104 Compact PID Controller, Type 702011

Description

A compact PID controller family with USB-powered PC setup

The JUMO favoTRON (type 702011, format 116 at 48 x 48 mm, with sister type 702014, format 104 at 96 x 96 mm) is a series of compact controllers for temperature, pressure and other process variables. It works as a two-state or three-state controller, and the basic equipment includes autotuning, a ramp function, a program controller, manual mode, limit value monitoring, digital control signals, timer functions and a service counter. A bright display shows the actual value in white and the setpoint in green, and a plain-text menu structures the parameters. The setup program with program editor needs no extra power supply because the USB-C interface powers the device. The datasheet lists the food and beverage industry, water and wastewater treatment, thermoprocess technology, renewable energy and HVAC as areas of application.

Controller functions and monitoring

Controller parameters are set in two blocks, one per output, so a three-state controller can drive heating and cooling with a contact spacing. Settable values include proportional band, derivative and reset time, cycle time, switching differential, working point, output limits and a minimum relay switch-on time, for which the datasheet recommends at least 0.15 s when a relay is the controller output. The input monitors short-circuit and break of an RTD or 4 to 20 mA signal, and the behaviour on fault is configurable. Each relay needs its own fuse not above the contact rating. The analog and digital inputs are not galvanically isolated from the USB port, so do not connect the USB to a grounded sensor when the PC is grounded.

The measuring inputs accept the same signal on the analog input terminals, with the thermocouple and RTD connected to terminals 6 to 9 on the 48 mm type and 7 to 10 on the 96 mm type. The digital input and the logic output K5 share a three-terminal block, and the digital input is a potential-free contact that is active when closed below 1 kΩ and inactive when open above 50 kΩ. The relays are normally open, so a heater contactor is energised by closing K1. The device stores a service counter for switching cycles, so a user can plan relay replacement before the 100,000-cycle contact life at rated load is reached.

Installation notes

The plastic housing is for panel installation indoors, using the supplied frame or two mounting elements, in any position, with the display vertical at the maximum ambient temperature. Cut-outs follow the 48 and 96 mm DIN sizes, with 91.5 mm and 44.5 mm openings. Wire with 8 mm stripped conductors into the PUSH IN terminals, and keep the signal leads away from power cables. In the Gulf, the front IP65 rating suits wash-down panels, but the 55 °C ambient limit means panels in direct sun should have ventilation or a sunshade. Use the free setup program to build and store the program editor profiles for ovens, baths and process skids.

See controllers and data acquisition for related instruments.

Using the favoTRON in Oman and the GCC

Compact PID controllers are used in the region on ovens, furnaces, plastic machines, packaging machines, water heaters and climate chambers, and as simple control loops on skids where a PLC is not justified. The program controller and timer functions allow simple heat treatment or curing profiles, and the limit value monitoring can provide alarm outputs.

Panels in the region can run hot in summer, so check the internal panel temperature against the operating range of the controller. Use the correct sensor type for each loop, such as thermocouple or Pt100, and run autotuning after commissioning. The USB setup function allows configuration to be saved and copied to identical machines.

When replacing an older controller, send the model of the existing unit and the panel cut-out size, so the replacement fits the panel without changes. For machines with several zones, list each zone with its sensor type and output, so the configuration can be checked before delivery and the controllers arrive ready to set up.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection.
