Brand:

Horiba LAQUA F-72 Benchtop pH/ORP/Ion Meter, Touch Screen

Description

F-72 is the high-end pH meter of HORIBA’s LAQUA benchtop range: a single-channel touch-screen instrument for pH, mV (ORP), ion concentration and temperature with 0.001 pH resolution, five-point calibration, 2000-record memory, USB and RS-232C connectivity, and periodic-inspection routines for laboratories that must prove their equipment is in order.

A laboratory pH and ion meter built around guided operation

The F-72 is the pH and ion sibling of the DS-72 conductivity meter and uses the same housing: a colour graphic display with a capacitive touch panel on which readings can be shown as digits, a real-time graph or an analogue-style dial. An electronic user guide with colour pictures is built into the meter and a navigation function walks the operator through electrode checks, calibration and troubleshooting,.

For regulated laboratories the instrument is organised around traceability. Operators can be registered, results carry sample ID and calibration information, passwords protect settings and the meter can feed a GLP/GMP printer and a PC at the same time. Two kit variants add the LAQUA 21 CFR Part 11 software for customers whose quality system needs that route; ask us for the software documentation if this matters.

Functions listed on the product page

  • Digital, graph or analogue display; on-screen electronic user guide and problem-solver guide.
  • Periodic inspection mode (JIS, pharmacopoeia and X-51 simulator modes) for pH and ion measurement.
  • Customisable auto-hold for calibration and measurement; stability function for pH and ion.
  • 2000 sets of data, interval memory, ID input and data search; USB-PC communication and USB memory.
  • Standard addition method measurement (known addition and sample addition, single and double).

Which kit to quote

Order F-72A-S if your buffers are pH 4.01, 7.00 and 10.01, or F-72A-SN for NIST 4.01, 6.86 and 9.18. F-72G is the meter alone for laboratories that already have electrodes and buffers; the CFR variants are for users who will run the Part 11 software.

Ion work needs an ion-selective electrode for the target ion and, per the manual, a reference electrode; the entry screens cover monovalent and divalent ions and several standard ion types. For checks of electrode quality, the 9615S-10D kit electrode is a refillable glass-body type that uses the 3.33 M KCl solution in the kit.

Daily use and periodic inspection

The manual recommends running the periodic inspection about every three months. In JIS mode the meter guides you through pH 6.865, 4.008 and 9.180 (three measurements of the last) and displays the result. In pharmacopoeia mode, after pH 7 and 4 standards, pH 7 is measured five times and repeatability is judged. The X-51 simulator mode checks the meter alone. The manual states these modes are based on, but not fully compliant with, the named regulations, so check your own quality procedure.

Set the pH resolution to 0.001 for inspection. Connect the electrode to the rear sockets, switch on with a long press of POWER and note that POWER does not respond for ten seconds after the adapter is plugged in.

Laboratory pH and ion work

A benchtop meter of this class serves water-treatment laboratories, food and beverage QC, petrochemical and utility labs and teaching laboratories. The 0 to 45 °C ambient limit simply calls for an air-conditioned room.

About brand

HORIBA is a Japanese maker of analytical and measurement instruments, headquartered in Kyoto. Its origins go back to 1945, when Masao Horiba, then a Kyoto University student, set up the Horiba Radio Laboratory; the company was incorporated as Horiba, Ltd. in 1953 and began mass-producing pH meters in the early 1950s. In 1964 it built its first automotive emission analyser, the MEXA-1.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Horiba LAQUA meters with the official manual beside each listing, for water, laboratory and environmental users in Oman and the GCC.
