Hach Orbisphere 510 Multichannel Gas and Dissolved Gas Analyzer
Overview
The Hach Orbisphere 510 is a multichannel gas and dissolved gas analyzer that runs up to three Orbisphere sensors from one instrument. It accepts Orbisphere luminescent dissolved oxygen (LDO) sensors for O2, electrochemical sensors for O2, O3 and low levels of H2, and thermal conductivity sensors for selective measurement of CO2, N2 or H2. Hach positions it for accurate, repeatable trace-level gas analysis with a high level of data management, which is why it is found on boiler feedwater, pure water and beverage lines.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Hach Orbisphere 510 to power producers, desalination and water treatment plants, industrial steam users and beverage plants in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat engineers help you match the controller to the right sensors, mounting version, power supply and communication options for each measuring point.
Operating Principle of the Hach Orbisphere 510
The Hach Orbisphere 510 is the electronics and user interface; the measurement itself is made by the sensor fitted to each channel, and resolution, accuracy and response time are therefore set by the sensor chosen. An LDO sensor measures oxygen by luminescence quenching, an electrochemical sensor measures the gas through a membrane-covered cell, and a thermal conductivity sensor separates a target gas such as CO2 or N2 by its effect on heat transfer. The controller can combine an LDO sensor with a thermal conductivity sensor when CO2 must be measured alongside oxygen.
During configuration the operator can remove common interference effects from CO2, H2S, H2, N2, humidity, salinity and chlorinity. For electrochemical oxygen sensors Hach lists chlorinity and salinity correction, CO2 and H2S insensitivity and H2 correction, plus O2/N2 compensation for electronics applications. A configurable thermal cut-off protects the sensor when sample temperature exceeds the configured limit.
Engineering Design of the Hach Orbisphere 510
Three mounting versions of the Hach Orbisphere 510 are offered. The panel version has an aluminium enclosure rated IP65, measuring 156 x 220 x 253.5 mm and weighing 2.9 kg. The wall and pipe version uses a stainless steel enclosure rated IP65 / NEMA 4X, measuring 230.5 x 250 x 160 mm and weighing 3.8 kg. A portable aluminium version, also 3.8 kg, runs from 5 V supplied through an external 85-264 VAC adapter and can take an optional four-hour battery pack. Fixed versions accept universal 100/240 VAC at 50/60 Hz (25 VA) or 10-36 VDC (25 W).
The operator works on a colour TFT touchscreen that shows concentration, a trend graph, diagnostics, alarm status and historical data. Gas concentration can be shown for the gas or liquid phase in several units, together with external and barometric pressure and sample temperature in K, °C or °F. Product lists and global settings can be moved between instruments through USB-client or USB-host ports, which simplifies commissioning when several analyzers are installed on one site.
Key Features of the Hach Orbisphere 510
Hach lists the following functions for the Hach Orbisphere 510.

- Full compatibility with Orbisphere electrochemical sensors, including Smart sensors that store their own calibration and can be calibrated in the laboratory before installation.
- Three smart 0/4-20 mA outputs (500 ohm), programmable as linear or tri-linear and able to carry diagnostic information.
- Three measurement alarm relays and one system alarm relay, each rated 2 A at 30 VAC or 0.5 A at 50 VDC.
- RS485 and Ethernet communication as standard, with Profibus DP as an option.
- Data storage of up to 10,000 measurements, the last 1,000 operator actions and the last 50 calibrations, in rolling-buffer or store-once mode.
- Five levels of password protection to limit configuration and data access.
- Internal diagnostics with maintenance and calibration reminders and adjustable alarms for out-of-specification events.
Industrial Applications
Hach lists food and beverage, industrial water, pure water applications and non-nuclear power for this analyzer. In Oman the Hach Orbisphere 510 is well suited to trace dissolved oxygen on condensate and boiler feedwater at combined-cycle power stations, at independent water and power projects in Barka, Sohar, Sur and Salalah, and on the steam systems of refineries and petrochemical plants. Because one controller handles up to three channels, a single Hach Orbisphere 510 can cover several points of a water-steam cycle.
Beverage producers use the same platform to control oxygen pick-up and CO2 content in product and process water. Seven Star LLC supplies the Hach Orbisphere 510 with engineering support in Muscat and can quote compatible Orbisphere sensors, flow chambers and spare parts so a three-channel point can be ordered as a single package.

Hach identifies every item by a catalog number, for example LXV416.99.20001 for a sensor or 21055-69 for a reagent pack, and the same reagent may be written with or without the dash. Send that number and the quantity. For analyzers and controllers, add the parameter and range, sample conditions, power supply, outputs and communication option. For sensors, tell us the controller model they will connect to and the cable length. For reagents, name the instrument and method so pack size and range can be confirmed against Hach documentation.Browse Hach products by category: Liquid Analytical Accessories, Liquid Analysis Sensors, Portable Test & Measurement, Liquid Analytical Systems.
