Danfoss 003N0042 AVTA 15 Thermostatic Water Valve, G 1/2

Description

AVTA 15: a self-acting thermostatic water valve for temperature control

Danfoss 003N0042 is an AVTA 15 thermostatic water valve with G 1/2 internal threads (ISO 228-1), a brass body and a Kv value of 1.9 m3/h. The sensor is a 9.5 x 180 mm bulb at the end of a 2000 mm capillary, with a mass charge, and the setting range is 0 to 30 C. The valve opens as the sensor temperature rises, a so-called direct-acting, self-acting control that needs no power.

The maximum working pressure is 16 bar (232 psig), the medium temperature range is -25 to 130 C, the maximum sensor temperature is 57 C and the maximum pressure on the sensor is 25 bar. The maximum differential pressure is 10 bar. Approvals shown are EAC, PED, RoHS and UA.

Self-acting temperature control with water

The AVTA controls the flow of neutral media such as water through a heat exchanger according to the temperature sensed by the bulb: for example, cooling a process oil, a compressor jacket or an engine, or controlling hot-water temperature in a calorifier. Brochures name district heating and boiler applications.

The sensor sits in a pocket in the controlled medium; as the temperature rises, the filling expands and pushes the valve open. A rise of a few kelvin gives the full flow, so the control is proportional. The valve closes on a spring when the temperature falls.

Sizing and ordering notes

Choose the valve size from the water flow and the available pressure drop with Kv 1.9 m3/h at 1 bar. The capillary gland is G 1/2 internal, so use the correct sensor pocket and fittings from the accessories list. Install the valve in the flow or return as the application needs, with the arrow in flow direction.

Confirm the temperature setting range, the medium (neutral media), the connection thread and the sensor pocket before ordering. The AVTA data sheet gives the range tables for the AVTA 10 to 25 and the installation guide the setting method.

Other types and sizes from the same Danfoss family that appear in the Danfoss store listing include AVTA 20 (003N0031), AVTA 25 (003N0032), AVTA 10 (003N1132). These are listed for orientation only; each has its own datasheet values, so check size, connection and version before ordering.

About brand

Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Danfoss company profile

Milestones

  • 1932–1933: First expansion valve; the company is founded in Nordborg.
  • 1939: 26 employees. By the 10th anniversary in 1943 the company has 179.
  • 1950s: Rapid growth turns Nordborg into a Danfoss town with housing and schools for its workforce.
  • 1968: Danfoss launches its VLT frequency converter, one of the first mass-produced AC drives.
  • 2014: Acquisition of the Finnish drives maker Vacon, now the VACON brand.
  • 2021: Acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.

Where Danfoss products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
