CPCE 22: a hot-gas bypass capacity regulator with an external pilot line
Danfoss 034N0084 is a CPCE 22 hot-gas bypass regulator, a capacity regulator that opens a bypass from the discharge side to the evaporator side when the suction pressure falls below its setting. It has 22 mm (7/8 in) ODF solder connections, a 7/16-20 UNF flare connection for the pilot line and an adjustable range of 0 to 6 bar with a factory setting of 0.4 bar (5.8 psig).

Capacity regulation with hot gas
When the cooling load falls the compressor may drop its suction pressure and cycle or run into a vacuum. By bypassing hot gas to the low side, the CPCE keeps the suction pressure up and holds the compressor running, avoiding frequent starts. The LG mixer injects liquid into the hot gas so that the bypassed gas arrives as a controlled-temperature mixture.
The capacity at the rating conditions (4 K superheat, 30 C condensing, -10 C evaporating) is 32 kW on R404A/R507A, 15.2 kW on R134a, 34 kW on R22 and 37.1 kW on R407C. Check the data sheet for the capacity curves with the actual conditions before sizing.
Installation and ordering notes
The external pilot line connects the downstream (evaporator side) pressure to the regulator through the flare fitting; fit it with a short line, avoiding traps. Install with the arrow in the flow direction and set the pressure with a gauge. Mind the compressor discharge temperature when large bypass flows are used.

Choosing Danfoss products
For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
