Description
A light trackless carriage for long fillet welds
The Promotech GECKO is a portable, trackless welding tractor that carries one or two MIG/MAG torches along a fillet or lap joint at a constant speed. Four-wheel drive with magnetic traction holds it to ferromagnetic workpieces, and roller guide arms run against the web so no track is needed. A closed-loop speed control keeps travel speed stable in every position, which keeps heat input and bead size uniform over the length of the joint.
Typical work includes trailer and truck tank fabrication, storage tanks, transformer tanks and ship sections: any job with long continuous fillet welds where manual welding tends to over-weld. At 8 kg it is easily carried between joints.

Crater fill and dual-torch set-ups
The GECKO can delay travel after arc ignition (d1) and keep the arc burning after the tractor stops (d2), each adjustable from 0 to 5 s in 0.5 s steps. This fills the start and end of the seam instead of leaving a thin bead. A multifunction LED display shows travel speed and diagnostic messages, and the last setting is stored.
With the dual torch mount PDT-0466-40-00-00-0 the carriage welds both sides of a stiffener at once. Seven pairs of guide arms in 15 x 15 mm section, including edge-following, magnet and track-following arms, adapt it to different joint geometries, and a 36 mm or 160 mm flexible track can be used where there is no edge to follow. Thermal cutting is also possible with a suitable torch.
Shipping set
The GECKO is supplied with standard guide arms, a long-rod torch holder with 16–22 mm clamp, a 6.5 m dual arc-ignition cable, a 4 mm hex wrench, a plastic box and the operator's manual. The arc-ignition cable connects to the trigger circuit of the welding power source.
