RKI GX-3R Pro Five-Gas Personal Monitor

Description

A palm-sized five-gas monitor for personal protection

The RKI GX-3R Pro is described by RKI as the smallest and lightest 5-gas monitor: 2.9 in by 2.6 in by 1.06 in and 4.58 oz with its rubber boot. It displays LEL, O2, CO and H2S together with a fifth channel for an infrared or toxic sensor (HCN, NH3, NO2, PH3, SO2 or CO2). Two of the four sensor slots take interchangeable sensors, so the configuration can be changed in the field. An H2-compensated CO sensor is available.

Operation is two-button. Bluetooth links the instrument to the free RK Link app on iOS and Android, with programmable text or email notifications on an alarm event. A non-compliance indicator flashes the three LEDs every 30 seconds (adjustable) when a bump test or calibration is due or a gas alarm has occurred; man-down and panic alarms are standard.

Choosing sensors and battery

Decide the fifth-channel gas first, because infrared CO2 cuts battery life (16 hours on Li-ion without Bluetooth against 25 hours for a four-gas plus electrochemical unit). Where welding or battery-charging produces hydrogen, the H2-compensated CO sensor avoids false CO readings. The alkaline pack suits remote work with no charging; the Li-ion pack recharges in three hours. A diffusion unit senses only the air at the instrument, so use the RP-3R clip-on pump or hand aspirator for pre-entry sampling.

What to confirm before ordering

State the sensor set for each slot, battery pack, approval marking, calibration gas and an SDM-3R calibration station if a station is wanted. The standard kit includes an alligator clip, protective rubber boot, charger and calibration adapter. For the explosion-proof ratings the datasheet lists ATEX, CSA, IECEx and MED; the attached Japanese TIIS certificate is separate.

About brand

RKI Instruments, Inc. designs and manufactures gas detection equipment for industrial, commercial and environmental safety. The company was founded in 1994, is headquartered in Union City, California, and works with Riken Keiki of Japan on gas detection and sensor technology. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and lists its portable gas monitors.

RKI gas detection range

The range covers portable monitors such as the GX-3R Pro, GX-Force and GX-6100, fixed-system detectors and controllers, wireless gas detection and calibration equipment. Typical uses are confined-space entry, refinery and petrochemical work, water and wastewater, and leak detection, with intrinsically safe approvals on the portable models.

Ordering RKI monitors

Tell us the gases and ranges, whether diffusion or sample-draw is needed, battery type and the approval marking required on site. We check the sensor configuration and calibration gas against the manufacturer datasheet before quoting. Pump-sampling units suit pre-entry checks of tanks and manholes, while compact diffusion monitors suit personal protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many gases does the GX-3R Pro monitor?
Five at once: LEL, O2, CO and H2S plus a fifth channel for HCN, NH3, NO2, PH3, SO2 or infrared CO2.
How big is it?
2.9 in by 2.6 in by 1.06 in and 4.58 oz with the rubber boot, which RKI describes as the smallest and lightest 5-gas monitor.
Does it have wireless connectivity?
Yes. Bluetooth connects to the RK Link app on iOS and Android and can send text or email notifications on alarms.
How long does it run?
Up to 25 hours on the Li-ion pack (4-gas plus electrochemical, no Bluetooth), charging in 3 hours; alkaline packs give 16 hours in the same configuration.
What does the non-compliance indicator do?
It flashes the three LEDs every 30 seconds (adjustable) when a bump test or calibration is overdue or after a gas alarm event.
