Minimax UniVario YMX5000 Flame and Spark Detection System

Description

Modular spark and flame detection that checks its own optics

The Minimax UniVario YMX5000 is a detection system built from one control unit with three ports and detached sensor units for spark detection and fast flame detection. Minimax designed it for confined installation conditions in harsh industrial environments, and positions it as an extension of the UniVario industrial fire detector family for spark extinguishing systems and other special applications.

The control unit watches its essential functions automatically and adds a status display and a history memory. The sensor units test their own optics cyclically for contamination or damage, which Minimax describes as a unique selling point because it raises operational reliability and allows longer inspection intervals. The electronics of the sensor units sit in a flameproof stainless steel enclosure.

Sensor types, installation and maintenance

The YMX5000 FUX sensor units are used wherever sparks create an increased fire risk, for example in drop chutes and transport air ducts. Standard FUX units cover -40 C to 105 C, and the FUX HT with fiber optics decouples the electronics from process temperatures up to 300 C. The FUX DL and DLS (daylight and daylight special) versions are intended for areas exposed to daylight, such as drop chutes, or for applications with a different detection spectrum.

The FMX sensor units are rapid three-channel IR flame detectors designed to recognise open flames without false alarms. Air flushing reduces the wear of the optics in transport air ducts, and the large 120 degree viewing angle remains unaffected by it.

Minimax lists single-hole mounting as a way to set up a sensor quickly in confined spaces, and interchangeable optics so that a contaminated or damaged optic is replaced instead of the whole detector. The system can also retrofit existing installations. Self-monitoring of the optics allows inspection intervals to be extended, which suits sites with limited service personnel.

What to confirm before ordering

The brochure describes a family, not a single part number. Please send the sensor unit type (FUX OS/OP, HT, DL/DLS or FMX), whether an Ex version is required and for which zone, the duct or chute temperature, the cable lengths and the accessory kits needed. If you are extending a spark extinguishing system, tell us the control panel in use, for example the Minimax Clunid FMZ6000.

About brand

Fire detection and extinguishing systems for industrial plants, data centers and logistics buildings are the business of Minimax, based in Bad Oldesloe, Germany. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Oman and lists Minimax fire control panels, detectors, a deluge valve set and the MxSysCon fire control configuration software, supplied with its licence dongle. We also take inquiries for Minimax fire protection components and spare parts identified by part number.

Minimax systems the software and parts belong to

The manufacturer's program covers fire detection and extinguishing control panels of the FMZ family and HELIOS aspirating smoke detectors. On the extinguishing side it builds deluge and other water-based systems, Minifog water mist, Oxeo inert gas and carbon dioxide systems, and spark extinguishing. Panel configuration software is tied to a specific panel generation. We did not find the name MxSysCon in the manufacturer's public documents, so the software version has to be checked against your panel type.

Ordering Minimax items: what we need

Send the Minimax part number, the type and firmware version of the control panel, and a photo of the panel label. For detectors, nozzles or valves, add the nameplate data and the approval the project specifies. Minimax systems are engineered per site, so a component is only correct when it matches the original system documents. We check that match for buyers across the GCC before the order is placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sensor units can one YMX5000 control unit take?
The control unit has three ports, so up to three detached sensor units can be connected.
What temperatures can the FUX spark sensor handle?
The FUX sensor unit works from -40 C to 105 C as standard. The FUX HT version with fiber optics is rated for process temperatures up to 300 C.
Can the YMX5000 be used in explosion hazard areas?
Yes, Ex sensor units are suitable for Ex zones 1, 2, 20, 21 and 22 and run on the YMX5000 3GD evaluation unit, which can be used in Ex zones 2 and 22.
How does it detect a contaminated optic?
The sensor units cyclically check their optics for possible contamination or damage, and faults are signalled by the control unit.
Is there a silicone-free version?
Minimax lists silicone-free versions for painting technology applications and for use in the food industry.
