Endress+Hauser Promass S 100 Hygienic Coriolis Flowmeter

Description

Endress+Hauser Promass S 100 hygienic Coriolis flowmeter, what it is

The Endress+Hauser Promass S 100 is a Coriolis mass flowmeter in the Proline family built around a single, self-draining measuring tube and an ultra-compact transmitter. It is aimed at liquid lines where the meter must be cleaned in place, drained completely and kept free of dead pockets: dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and fine-chemical filling or dosing skids. The Promass S 100 reports mass flow, volume flow, density and temperature from one device, so one sensor can replace several measuring points on a line. Seven Star LLC supplies the Promass S 100 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat and quotes it against the line size, connection and output you specify.

The manufacturer describes the sensor as 3-A and EHEDG conform, with fast recovery from CIP and SIP cycles, and the transmitter housing as robust and ultra-compact with a local display available. The device-generation name in the ordering structure is Proline, and the S in the name marks the single-tube hygienic sensor, which is different from the straight-tube Promass F, the dual-bent-tube Promass E and the small-line Promass A sensors.

How the Promass S 100 measures mass flow, density and temperature

Inside the sensor the measuring tube is excited to oscillate. When liquid flows through an oscillating tube, Coriolis forces delay the vibration at the inlet side and advance it at the outlet side, and electrodynamic pick-ups register the resulting phase shift. The phase shift grows with mass flow. A swinging counter-mass arranged off-centre keeps the system balanced. Because the principle measures mass directly, it does not depend on the temperature, pressure, viscosity, conductivity or flow profile of the liquid.

The tube is held at its resonant frequency, and any change in the mass of the liquid inside it shifts that frequency; the electronics turn this into a density signal. Volume flow is calculated from mass flow and density, and the tube temperature is measured to compensate temperature effects and is also available as an output. The same data supports concentration and special-density functions when the corresponding application package is ordered.

Selection guide for the Promass S 100: sizes, connections and outputs

The datasheet covers nominal sizes DN 8 to 50 (3/8 to 2 inch). Full-scale values for liquids start at 0 to 2 000 kg/h at DN 8 and rise with line size; the exact full scale per size is given in the measuring-range table of the technical information. Process connections are offered in a large range of hygienic fittings (clamp, dairy and aseptic types) plus flanges to EN 1092-1, ASME B16.5 and JIS B2220; all welded connections are free of internal seals.

Outputs depend on the order code. The technical information lists 4-20 mA HART (active) with a 0 to 700 Ω load, a pulse/frequency/switch output, Modbus RS485 (including an intrinsically safe version), EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. The transmitter has an integrated web server so a laptop browser can configure the meter without extra software, and Heartbeat Technology provides in-situ verification. Choose the housing deliberately: option A is coated aluminium, option B is a hygienic stainless compact housing and option C is the ultra-compact hygienic stainless housing.

Installation of the Promass S 100 in hygienic and CIP lines

The self-draining tube only does its job if the meter is installed so that it can drain: keep the highest point of the pipeline and the pipe directly upstream of a free outlet in a downpipe away from the sensor, because gas collecting in the tube causes measurement error. The meter needs no defined inlet or outlet run. If the sensor must be supported, use a mounting clamp with a lining between clamp and housing as described in the document; the sensor itself does not need extra support for performance.

Protect the transmitter from direct sunlight in warm regions. The specified ambient range is −40 to +60 °C (−50 to +60 °C with test option JM), and the medium temperature range is −50 to +150 °C. For wash-down areas, order the sensor option that gives IP69; the standard degree of protection is IP66/67 (Type 4X).

Maintenance, verification and diagnostics

With no moving parts in the flow path, routine maintenance is mainly visual inspection and periodic verification. Heartbeat Technology lets the instrument check its own sensor and electronics and produce a verification report without removing the meter from the line, which shortens shutdowns in validated plants. Keep the datasheet nameplate data and serial number with your records so the correct documentation can be traced later.

Where the Promass S 100 is used in Oman and the GCC

Food, dairy, beverage and pharmaceutical producers in Oman and across the Gulf use hygienic Coriolis meters for batching, ingredient dosing, product transfer and CIP return verification, where high ambient heat and frequent wash-down make a sealed IP66/67 or IP69 housing valuable. Water-bottling plants, juice and dairy lines and chemical formulation skids are typical examples. In industrial plants the same meter suits clean liquids that must be dosed by mass, such as additives and reagents.

Promass S 100 versus related Promass sensors

Choose the Promass S 100 when cleanability and drainability matter most. For high-accuracy general process lines the dual-tube Promass F, E and H families are usually compared, while very small flows point towards Promass A. The Promass S 100 shares the transmitter concept with other Proline 100 devices, which simplifies spares and operator training if you already run Proline equipment.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.

FAQ

Questions about the Endress+Hauser Promass S 100 Hygienic Coriolis

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What is the Promass S 100 designed for?
It is the hygienic single-tube Coriolis meter in the Proline range. It measures mass flow, volume flow, density and temperature of liquids and is built to be cleaned in place and to drain fully.
02Does it need straight inlet and outlet runs?
The manufacturer states no inlet or outlet run is needed for the sensor. You should still avoid mounting it at the highest point of the line or just upstream of a free outlet, so gas cannot collect in the tube.
03Which nominal sizes are covered?
The technical information covers DN 8 to 50 (3/8 to 2 inch), with a wide selection of hygienic process connections and flanges.
04What outputs can the transmitter provide?
4-20 mA HART, a pulse/frequency/switch output, Modbus RS485, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET, depending on the order code. A web server in the transmitter allows setup through a browser.
05What medium temperature is permitted?
The medium temperature range is −50 to +150 °C, and the sensor is built to recover quickly from CIP and SIP cycles.
