Endress+Hauser Cubemass C 300 Coriolis Mass Flowmeter

Description

Cubemass C 300: Coriolis flowmeter for very small flows at high pressure

The Endress+Hauser Cubemass C 300 is a compact Coriolis mass flowmeter for the smallest flow quantities in the Proline range. A bent single-tube sensor in 904L stainless steel covers nominal diameters of only DN 1 to DN 6 (1/24 to 1/4 in), liquid full-scale values from 20 to 1 000 kg/h, process pressure up to 400 bar and medium temperature up to +205 °C. It measures mass flow, density and temperature at once and is described as light enough for skid building. Seven Star LLC supplies the Cubemass C 300 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

How the Cubemass C 300 is built

“Cubemass C” is the small-bore sensor, housed in a compact 304 stainless steel (1.4301) body. The measuring tube is 904L (1.4539), and process connections are 904L or 316/316L. “300” is the Proline 300 transmitter in a coated aluminium dual-compartment housing, with up to three I/Os, a backlit touch display, WLAN access and the option of a remote display. Only the compact version is offered.

Small tubes are sensitive to everything around them, so the key purchasing decisions are the connection type and how the meter is installed. Besides flanges, the Cubemass C 300 offers 4-VCO-4 and 8-VCO-4 couplings and adapters from VCO to flanges or NPT threads.

Principle of operation of the Cubemass C 300

The single measuring tube is excited at its natural frequency. As fluid moves through, Coriolis forces deform the oscillation between the two ends, and electrodynamic pick-ups register the phase shift, which is proportional to mass flow. A change in fluid mass inside the tube changes the resonance frequency, giving density, and a temperature sensor on the tube provides compensation and a temperature output. Volume flow, corrected volume flow and reference density are calculated. The datasheet states that the principle works independently of physical fluid properties such as viscosity or density.

Fitting the Cubemass C 300 beside other Proline sensors

The Cubemass C 300 handles flows that no other Promass sensor reaches. The smallest Promass I 100 size, DN 8, starts at 2 000 kg/h full scale, so anything below that, such as additive dosing, sampling loops, fuel cell and hydrogen test benches, lubricant injection or laboratory-scale reactors, is Cubemass territory. Larger lines move to the Promass Q 300 or Promass O 300, and very large lines to the Promass X 300.

Gases can also be measured, with full-scale values dependent on gas density and speed of sound, and the Gas Fraction Handler software helps stabilize readings with entrained gas where the device version supports it. Outputs include 4–20 mA HART, pulse/frequency/switch, relay and fieldbus variants, and the device can be used in flow monitoring up to SIL 2 (SIL 3 in redundant setups).

Selection checklist for the Cubemass C 300

  • Flow range: the four sizes overlap, so pick the DN whose full scale suits the flow with 1:100 or better turndown headroom.
  • Pressure: choose flanges for up to PN 40, Class 300 or 10K, or VCO couplings for up to 400 bar.
  • Fluid compatibility: 904L tube and 316L or 904L connections; confirm against your chemistry and temperature up to +205 °C.
  • Connection style: flanges, 4-VCO-4 for DN 1 to 4, 8-VCO-4 for DN 6, or VCO adapters to flange or NPT.
  • Mounting kit and housing: the hazardous-area transmitter adds 2 kg.
  • Electrical: power supply, outputs and protocol, local display, approvals.
  • Application packages: Heartbeat Technology and special density.

Installation and maintenance of the Cubemass C 300

Fittings that cause turbulence need no special precautions. Install with the flow arrow in the direction of flow, choosing the orientation from the datasheet table, which recommends different transmitter positions for low and for high process temperatures so the transmitter stays within its ambient limits. For batching in a down pipe, the datasheet shows an orifice plate or pipe restriction downstream of the sensor with diameters of 0.8 mm (DN 1), 1.5 mm (DN 2), 3.0 mm (DN 4) and 5.0 mm (DN 6) so the tube stays full.

Because the flows are tiny, avoid air bubbles and pipe vibration, and keep tensile stress off the connections. Verify zero when the line is full and stationary, and use Heartbeat Verification for documented checks. The cable glands and housing seals are the only parts that need routine attention.

Cubemass C 300 applications in Oman and the GCC

Typical roles are chemical injection pumps and dosing skids in oil and gas production, corrosion-inhibitor and demulsifier dosing, methanol and glycol injection, sampling and analyser loops, fuel and lube consumption testing, catalyst and reagent feeds in petrochemical units, and laboratory or pilot plants. In desalination and power plants it suits antiscalant, biocide and other low-rate chemical dosing. High ambient temperatures are handled by the rated –40 to +60 °C range, and the transmitter should be shaded outdoors.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
