Georg Fischer, founded in 1802 and based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, is known to plant engineers for piping systems and for the Signet line of flow and analytical instruments that fit into them. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists the GF Signet 3-2551 Magmeter insertion electromagnetic flow sensor and the GF Signet 8550-1 flow transmitter.

GF Signet instruments listed here

The 3-2551 Magmeter is an insertion flow sensor: it is mounted through a fitting in the pipe wall and has no moving parts, which suits water that carries some solids. The 8550-1 is a flow transmitter that takes the signal from a Signet flow sensor and provides a display and outputs for the control system. Sensor, pipe fitting and transmitter are chosen together, because the fitting sets the insertion depth for a given pipe size and material.

Ordering GF Signet parts: what we need

Copy the manufacturer part number from the label, which normally starts with 3- followed by the model and option digits. Add pipe size, pipe material, the fitting you have, the fluid and its conductivity, sensor body material, output required and cable length. Water treatment, desalination and chemical dosing sites in the GCC often have older Signet transmitters; if a model is no longer produced we ask for the manufacturer’s current replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read a GF Signet part number?
Signet instruments carry a manufacturer part number beginning with 3-, followed by the model number and digits for the options, as in 3-2551. The label may also show a separate code number. Send everything printed on the label. For a sensor, also tell us the pipe size, because sensor length versions are matched to pipe diameter ranges.
Does the 2551 Magmeter need a special fitting?
Yes. An insertion sensor has to sit at a defined depth, and that is set by the Signet fitting for your pipe size and material. If you are replacing a sensor, tell us which fitting is in the line. If it is a new measuring point, give the pipe data so sensor and fitting are quoted together.
Is the Signet 8550-1 flow transmitter still the current model?
We could not confirm its present status when this page was written, so please ask. Send the part number from your unit and the sensor it is connected to. We will check with the manufacturer's documentation whether it is still supplied, and if not, which current transmitter is named as its replacement.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of Georg Fischer?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier and is not a distributor or agent of Georg Fischer. We source GF Signet sensors and transmitters through commercial channels, check the model or order code against the manufacturer's documentation before ordering, and provide the manufacturer's datasheet and the certificates the manufacturer issues with the order on request.
