Endress+Hauser Promass H 300 Corrosion-Resistant Coriolis Meter

Description

Promass H 300 Coriolis flowmeter with tantalum or zirconium measuring tube

The Endress+Hauser Promass H 300 is the corrosion-resistant member of the Promass 300 range. Its single bent measuring tube is made of tantalum 2.5W or zirconium 702 (UNS R60702), and the wetted process connection surfaces use the same metal, so aggressive media never touch the stainless-steel flange or sensor body. Nominal sizes run from DN 8 to DN 50 (3/8 to 2 in), with liquid full-scale values from 2,000 to 70,000 kg/h. The Proline 300 transmitter adds a touch display, WLAN access and up to three I/Os. Seven Star LLC supplies the Promass H 300 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The meter reports mass flow, density and temperature together and derives volume flow, corrected volume flow, reference density and concentration where the application package is fitted.

Reading the Promass H 300 designation

  • Promass H: single-tube sensor with minimal pressure loss and chemically resistant wetted materials.
  • 300: Proline 300 transmitter in aluminium, hygienic stainless or cast stainless housing; the cast stainless option adds about 6 kg.
  • The measuring tube choice is part of the order code: option DA selects zirconium 702 and option EA selects tantalum 2.5W.

Because tube material decides what the meter can safely measure, the order code should always be derived from a fluid compatibility check, not from the size alone.

Why the Promass H 300 uses tantalum or zirconium

Both metals form a stable protective oxide that gives high resistance to many aggressive chemicals where stainless steels and nickel alloys are attacked. The trade-off is temperature and compatibility: tantalum is rated to +150 °C and also allows gas measurement, while zirconium reaches +205 °C but is only specified for liquids in this datasheet. The datasheet itself does not list chemical resistance, so the fluid, concentration and temperature must be checked against a corrosion reference before the tube is chosen.

Measuring principle of the Promass H 300

The single tube is excited at resonance and the fluid inside it generates Coriolis forces that shift the phase between inlet and outlet pickups in proportion to mass flow. Density comes from the resonance frequency and tube temperature provides compensation. A counter-mass balances the system. The Gas Fraction Handler in the transmitter helps keep readings steady when gas bubbles disturb a liquid line, on the HART, Modbus RS485 and PROFINET versions.

Process connections and approvals for the Promass H 300

This model is built with fixed flange connections: EN 1092-1 (DIN 2501 and DIN 2512N), ASME B16.5 and JIS B2220. Hazardous-area versions follow separate Endress+Hauser safety instructions, and the datasheet gives equipment protection level Gb (Zone 1 in the measuring tube) for the Ex options. With the functional-safety option the meter may be used for flow monitoring up to SIL 2 single-channel and SIL 3 with homogeneous redundancy, evaluated to IEC 61508. Only options ordered with the device carry these approvals.

Comparison with other Promass 300 sensors

The Promass E 300 uses 904L tubes up to DN 80 for general duty, the Promass A 300 serves very small flows, and the Promass F 200 gives wider material choice including Alloy C22. Select the Promass H 300 when acids, chlorinated media or other fluids rule out stainless steel and nickel alloys.

Selection checklist for the Promass H 300

  • Fluid, concentration and maximum temperature to select tantalum or zirconium.
  • Flow range per DN size and whether gas measurement is needed (tantalum only).
  • Flange standard and pressure class up to PN 40 or Class 300.
  • Transmitter housing, power supply and I/O or fieldbus layout.
  • Zone marking, SIL and certificates required.
  • Whether the application package for concentration or special density is needed.

Installation and maintenance of the Promass H 300

Mount so that the tube stays full and gas cannot collect, preferably at the lowest point of a vertical line or downstream of a pump. Do not insulate the transmitter housing. Gasket and bolting materials must also suit the fluid, because the wetted connection surface is tantalum or zirconium rather than stainless steel. Zero the meter at standstill with the line filled, and keep records of Heartbeat verification when the package is available. Rinse the line before removal if the process fluid is hazardous.

Typical applications of the Promass H 300 in Oman and the GCC

Typical uses in the region include acid and chemical dosing and transfer in petrochemical and fertiliser plants, chlor-alkali and water-treatment chemical handling, metal finishing and process lines carrying hot or corrosive reagents. In hot weather, keep the transmitter shaded and observe the temperature derating tables for insulated lines.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
