Endress+Hauser Promag H 500 Remote Hygienic Flowmeter
Description
Promag H 500 remote hygienic flowmeter with up to four I/Os
The Endress+Hauser Promag H 500 is the remote-transmitter member of the Promag H hygienic electromagnetic flowmeter range. The stainless steel, PFA-lined sensor measures conductive liquids from DN 2 to DN 150, while the Proline 500 transmitter is mounted separately, on a wall or pipe, where it can be read and serviced comfortably. It is aimed at food, beverage, pharmaceutical and clean process lines where the sensor must be small and washdown-friendly but the electronics need more I/O, more fieldbus options or a hazardous-area rating. Seven Star LLC supplies Endress+Hauser instruments in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
Promag H 500 is a product name; the order code defines the transmitter type, I/O combination, sensor connection housing, cable length, process connection and approvals. This page explains those choices so that the enquiry is complete.

Digital and analog versions of the Proline 500 transmitter
Two transmitter variants share the Promag H 500 sensor. The Proline 500 digital keeps the ISEM (intelligent sensor electronics module) in the sensor connection housing, so the signal is carried digitally over a single standard cable up to 300 m. Because the signal is digital, the cable is not sensitive to EMC interference. The transmitter is for Zone 2 or Class I Division 2, and a mixed installation with the sensor in Zone 1 or Division 1 is possible. The Proline 500 keeps the ISEM in the transmitter and uses two separate cables, one for coil current and one for the signal with four coaxial cores, up to 200 m depending on conductivity. This version is for Zone 1 or Division 1 as well as Zone 2.
The sensor connection housing is coated aluminum (digital version only) or stainless steel. The transmitter housing is coated aluminum or, on the digital version, polycarbonate, and the local display is a four-line backlit touch display with guided “Make-it-run” wizards. WLAN and a service interface give access to FieldCare, DeviceCare and the integrated web server.
I/O and fieldbus options of the Promag H 500
Output/input 1 defines the main interface: 4–20 mA HART (including Ex i versions), FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS DP or PA, Modbus RS485, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PROFINET over Ethernet-APL or Modbus TCP over Ethernet-APL. Up to three further channels are selected from a current output, a user-configurable input/output, a pulse/frequency/switch output, a double pulse output, a relay output, a 0/4 to 20 mA current input and a status input, with Ex i variants of several. The current input accepts external temperature or density values. With the Extended HistoROM package, one to four channels of measured values can be recorded and exported through the web server.
How the Promag H 500 differs from compact Promag models
The Promag H 500 measures with the same PFA liner, electrode set and hygienic connections as the compact Promag H 100, but it separates the electronics from the sensor. Choose it where the sensor is installed in a hot or wet zone, where the transmitter must be at eye level, where more than two outputs are needed, or where a Zone 1 transmitter or SIL option is part of the specification. The Promag H 100 is more economical when a compact unit with one output pair is enough, and the Promag W 800 and Promag E 100 serve water and general process duty respectively.
Selecting and ordering the Promag H 500
- Transmitter: digital or analog Proline 500, housing material, and the display choice.
- Hazardous area: ATEX/IECEx versions with documentation (XA) for the exact order code; Ex de transmitters must not be connected through the CDI-RJ45 service interface.
- I/O: main interface plus up to three additional I/O channels. Check the exclusion table in the data sheet before assuming a combination is possible.
- Process connection and seal: welding nipple, clamp, DIN 11851 or DIN 11864 coupling, flange, thread or PVC sleeve, with EPDM, FKM, silicone or Kalrez seals as listed.
- Cable length: connecting cable can be ordered in various lengths, up to the limits of the chosen transmitter version.
- Approvals: 3-A and EHEDG (Type EL Class I) markings are only present when the matching options are ordered; FDA 21 CFR 177, USP Class VI and cGMP are available through documentation options.
- Power: DC 24 V or AC 100 to 240 V, with an external breaker of 2 A to 10 A because the device has no power switch.
Installation and commissioning of the Promag H 500
Mount the sensor in a full line, with the flow arrow aligned, and fit the transmitter within the permitted cable length. The cable shield and potential equalization must follow the connection diagrams, and Ex de transmitters need the separate Ex instructions. During CIP or SIP cleaning, make sure that the sensor flow velocity meets cleanability requirements; for EHEDG, the test condition is 1.5 m/s in the process line. In outdoor locations, shade the transmitter and display, as the datasheet advises against direct sunlight in warm climates. After commissioning, Heartbeat Verification can document a pass/fail result with a report, and the SIL option comes with a functional safety manual.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
The Promag H 500 is appropriate for bottling and dairy plants, juice and beverage blending, pharmaceutical water and CIP return lines, and biotechnology facilities. In heavily industrialized areas the transmitter can be kept in a cool control room or shaded panel while the sensor sits on the skid, which helps in Gulf summers. Where a hygienic line runs through a classified area, such as a solvent-handling pharma plant, the Zone 1 transmitter option and Ex i I/O variants matter more than in a food plant.
Promag H 500 versus related Promag H models

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.
Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need
The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
