Endress+Hauser CM442R Liquiline DIN-Rail Transmitter

Description

CM442R Liquiline DIN-rail transmitter for two Memosens channels

The Endress+Hauser CM442R is the cabinet version of the Liquiline CM442. It has the same electronics as the field unit, but the housing is made for a DIN rail, so it can sit in a control panel or marshalling cabinet while its graphic display is mounted on the cabinet door through a display cable. The device is a four-wire controller with up to two digital Memosens sensor channels. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, supplies the CM442R together with Memosens sensors, cables and assemblies in Oman and the GCC.

The "R" in the model name marks the rail-mounted housing. Its order code follows the pattern CM442R-**M1A1F0* in the manufacturer example, which describes a unit with one Memosens input and two current outputs without HART. A second Memosens input, HART and several Ethernet-based protocols are released later by activation code, so one hardware base can be set up in several ways.

How the CM442R is built from modules

The CM442R base module (BASE2-E) always occupies slots 0 and 1 and carries the Memosens input, current outputs, alarm relay and service interface. Extension modules are added in ascending slot order: a fieldbus module (485DP or 485MB), the optional 2DS Ex-i intrinsically safe sensor module, DIO, 2AI, 2AO or 4AO, and relay modules AOR, 2R and 4R. The same module types are used across the Liquiline platform, so spare stock is shared with the CM444R and CM448R.

In the manufacturer example for the CM442R, further inputs and outputs are added in free slot 2. For PROFIBUS DP use module 485DP (71575177); for Modbus RS485 use module 485MB (71575178). Note that fitting either module after delivery switches off existing current outputs. Analog inputs come with the 2AI module (71135639) and extra current outputs with the 2AO module (71135632).

An optional intrinsically safe sensor communication module (2DS Ex-i) is listed for the Liquiline range. If sensors are installed in a hazardous area, request that variant and its approval documents by exact order code; the CM442R-only data on this page does not replace those papers.

CM442R compared with CM442 and the larger R units

The CM442 field unit has the same two channels but sits in an IP66/67 wall housing. The CM444R and CM448R share the same TI document and give four or eight channels, and they are powered by an external DIN-rail power unit. The CM442R is powered directly by mains or 24 V AC/DC. Choose the CM442R when a cabinet already exists, when the display needs to be on the door, or when the analysis electronics should be kept out of the heat and dust of the process area.

The CM442R measures nothing by itself. Typical partners are CPS pH sensors, CLS conductivity sensors, COS oxygen sensors and the CCS51E free chlorine sensor, joined by Memosens cables CYK10 or CYK11 up to 100 m. Hygienic and process holders such as the CPA842 and CPA875 sit on the other end of the cable.

Selection checklist for a CM442R

  • Number of channels: one or two Memosens sensors; the second input can be activated by code.
  • Supply: 100 to 230 V AC or 24 V AC/DC; the device has no on/off switch, so install a labelled breaker.
  • Outputs: 4 to 20 mA count, alarm relay and any extra relay modules for dosing and cleaning.
  • Display: external plastic or stainless steel display, and the 3 m display cable length limit.
  • Fieldbus: HART, PROFIBUS DP, Modbus or Ethernet, and the effect of 485DP/485MB on the current outputs.
  • Cabinet space and temperature: the DIN-rail unit must stay at 0 to 60 °C, and below 50 °C for some module sets.
  • Surge protection: the manufacturer lists the HAW562 DIN-rail overvoltage protector for supply lines.

Installing and commissioning the CM442R

Snap the unit onto the DIN rail, keep ventilation space around the housing, and connect the Memosens cable to the base module. Mount the display on the cabinet door with the supplied seal for IP66 at the front and run the 3 m display cable without extending it. Separate power and signal wiring, and tie protective earth to the correct terminals.

Commissioning follows the Liquiline menu: select the sensor type, check the detected sensor data, calibrate if needed, configure outputs and relay functions, then set fieldbus parameters. Measured values can be scaled, combined by mathematical functions and used in the controller function. The unit stores logbooks in non-volatile memory and supports SD-card backup of configuration.

Maintenance and spares for the CM442R

Because Memosens sensors hold their own calibration, the transmitter seldom needs service beyond display seals and firmware updates. Keep a spare module of each type used, a spare display cable and the activation codes noted by serial number. Check the cabinet fan and filters in hot sites, since the temperature limit is 60 °C. If surge events are common in the supply, fit the overvoltage protector.

CM442R applications in Oman and the GCC

Cabinet-mounted analysers are common in water and utility buildings and in motor control centres across Oman and the GCC. The CM442R suits desalination dosing and monitoring panels, power plant cycle chemistry cabinets, wastewater plant control rooms, and food and beverage utilities. With air-conditioned panels, the lower IP20 rating of the DIN-rail unit is acceptable and the electronics are protected from dust and humidity better than a field mounted transmitter would be.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
