The NCP Tech 2 is a Normalab heated centrifuge for petroleum laboratories. Sample tubes are spun at a controlled temperature so that water and sediment settle in the graduated tip of the tube, where the volume is read. It is the standard way to determine water and sediment in crude oil and residual fuel and to check precipitation index and water in lubricating oils, which matters at custody transfer points, terminals and refineries.

Safety features and accessories
The lid carries safety systems with an automatic latch lock, and the centrifuge has imbalance detection with shutdown, over-speed protection, a safety system against overheating and a protective ring between the chamber and the housing. The unbalance location system indicates which bucket is the faulty one. Automatic rotor recognition prevents running with an unsuitable rotor, and tubes rest upright.
The unit is delivered ready to use with a power cable and user guide; accessories and rotors are ordered separately. Listed accessories are the gas release system (GRS, P/N 29412), which injects air into the chamber and pipes it to an exhaust, a rolling table with four 360 degree wheels, swing-out rotors, and 6 inch or 8 inch cone-shaped or pear-shaped centrifuge tubes.
Choosing the right NCP model
Normalab shows two alternatives in the same range: the NCP Classic (P/N 29602), an unheated version with four positions, and the NCP Tech XL (P/N 29601), a heated version with eight positions. Choose the Tech 2 when four heated places match your daily workload and the methods require a controlled temperature.
Because the samples are flammable hydrocarbons, plan the gas release system and exhaust, the rotor and tube types for your standards, and a stable floor for a 76 kg machine. Check that tubes are free of chips or cracks before each run, because the centrifugal force is high. Confirm the standards, tube sizes, rotors and 230 V supply before ordering. Normalab is a French manufacturer of laboratory instruments for petroleum product testing, established in 1963 and based in Valliquerville, Normandy. The company started out as glassblowers and still runs a glassblowing workshop.
