Brand:

Crowcon SMART 3G-D2 SIL 2 Fixed Gas Detector with Display

Description

A SIL 2 fixed gas detector with display for toxic, flammable and refrigerant gases

The Crowcon SMART 3G-D2 is a fixed gas detector with a four-digit backlit display, a five-mode status LED and a high-visibility multi-colour LED light ring, built for harsh environments and classified areas. Crowcon lists it for toxic gases, flammable compounds, oxygen, carbon dioxide and refrigerants, with catalytic, infrared and electrochemical sensor options. It has a standard 4-20 mA output and a three-relay board, optional RS485 Modbus, stainless-steel and remote-sensor options, and non-intrusive one-man calibration through Hall-effect switches, so the area does not need to be declassified.

The flammable-gas manual for the SMART 3G family shows a flameproof marking of the form II 2G Ex db IIC T* Gb (and 2GD with Ex tb IIIC for dust variants), with the temperature class and ambient range given on the label of each unit; the exact marking depends on the configuration ordered.

Gases and sensor technology

Sensor choice depends on the gas. Examples from the datasheet: methane, propane, butane, ethane, pentane, heptane, LPG, petrol vapours, propylene, acetone and ethanol are available with catalytic or infrared sensors; hydrogen with catalytic or electrochemical; ammonia with catalytic or electrochemical; carbon monoxide, nitric oxide and oxygen with electrochemical cells; and ethylene, ethylene oxide, methanol, benzene, toluene, xylene, styrene and JP8 with catalytic sensors. Butadiene, isobutylene and dimethyl ether use infrared. The refrigerant list, all infrared, includes R32, R134A, R125, R410A, R404A, R407A, R407F, R449A, R448, R417A, R507A, R152A, R454B, R1234YF, R1234ZE and SF6.

Use infrared where oxygen-poor atmospheres or catalyst poisons would limit a catalytic bead, and the intrinsically safe version where the installation requires an IS detector. Stainless-steel housings and remote sensors suit corrosive or hard-to-reach locations.

About brand

Crowcon has made gas detection instruments since 1970 and is based in Abingdon, United Kingdom. The company builds portable detectors worn or carried by workers and fixed detectors and control panels for plant areas, covering flammable gases, toxic gases and oxygen. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Crowcon portable gas detectors, sensors and accessories for sites in Oman, including the Gas-Pro and Gasman listed on this page.

Crowcon portable detectors listed here

The Gasman is a single-gas personal detector, worn by one person to warn of one hazard such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, flammable gas or low oxygen. The Gas-Pro is a multi-gas detector for confined space entry that monitors up to five gases and can be ordered with an internal pump for pre-entry sampling. In both cases the sensor fit is chosen at the time of order.

Ordering Crowcon detectors: what we need

Send the gases and ranges you need, the alarm levels if they differ from the manufacturer's defaults, and for a Gas-Pro if the pumped version is wanted. For spare sensors, send the detector model, serial number and the gas. Add chargers, sampling kits or test accessories to the same inquiry. Contractors in the GCC should state the approval marking their site permit system asks for.
