Schneider Electric RM17TG00 Harmony 3-Phase Control Relay
Description
RM17TG00 three-phase monitoring relay for phase sequence and phase loss
The RM17TG00 is a Schneider Electric product listed in the datasheet as: 3-phase control relay, Harmony Control Relays, 5A, 1CO, screw connectors, 208 to 480V AC. The RM17TG00 is a three-phase control relay in the Harmony range. It watches the supply of a motor or machine for wrong phase sequence and loss of one phase, and opens its output contact when the supply is unsafe. Seven Star LLC supplies the RM17TG00 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier based in Muscat.
Reading the reference: RM17 is the Harmony three-phase monitoring series, TG the phase-sequence and phase-failure function and 00 the base version without a test button, matching the datasheet (without test button, 208 to 480 V).

What the relay monitors and how it responds
Monitored parameters: Phase sequence; Phase failure detection (2 or more phase cut). Measurement range: 208 to 480 V AC. Detection threshold: < 100 V AC. Response time: <= 130 ms (in the event of a fault). Output contact: 1 C/O. Output current: 5A. Switching capacity: 1250 VA.
The relay is self-powered from the monitored supply; there is no auxiliary supply. A yellow LED shows that the output relay is energised. If the sequence is wrong, the relay stays off, which protects pumps and compressors from reverse rotation.
Where the RM17TG00 is placed in the control circuit
The usual place is in the coil circuit of a main contactor so that a phase fault drops the contactor, or as a permissive in the PLC starting sequence. The output contact (one change-over) is rated as in the table.
For voltage window, under-voltage and asymmetry monitoring, other relays in the RM17 family are chosen.
Selection checklist for the RM17TG00
- Supply voltage between 208 and 480 V AC.
- Which faults must be detected: sequence and phase loss.
- Single change-over output current and voltage.
- Test button not needed.
- DIN rail mounting.
- Response time acceptability.
Wiring and testing the RM17TG00
Connect L1, L2 and L3 to the monitoring terminals, and the output contact into the control circuit. The unit is only 17.5 mm wide, so mount it beside other control relays.
Test by swapping two phases with the supply isolated and then restoring; the relay should refuse to pull in. A periodic functional test is advisable.
Typical applications of the RM17TG00 in Oman and the GCC
Pumps, compressors, scroll chillers, lifts and imported machinery where wrong phase rotation could damage equipment, common in the Gulf.
Dimensions, environment and approvals of the RM17TG00
For the RM17TG00, plan the mounting space from the datasheet: 17.5 mm; 17.8 mm (W) x 90 mm; 88.9 mm (H) x 72 mm; 71.1 mm (D). The RM17TG00 weighs 0.085 kg; 0.09 kg. Mounting, derating and enclosure choices follow the environmental data below, which should be compared with the actual panel temperature and the dust and humidity of the site in Oman and the GCC.
Ambient temperature limits in the datasheet: -40 to 70 °C. Relative humidity: 95 % 55 °C IEC 60068-2-30. Ingress protection: IP20 IEC 60529 terminals; IP30 IEC 60529 casing. Standards listed: IEC 60255-1. Certifications listed for this reference: C-tick; GL; CSA; UL; GOST.
Information to send with an RFQ for the RM17TG00

- Required delivery location and timing
- Whether a spare, a replacement or a new installation
Site conditions in Oman for the RM17TG00
Control cabinets in Gulf plants often run hot, because many sit in outdoor kiosks or in rooms where air conditioning is not always reliable. Before you finalise the RM17TG00, check the permitted ambient range and any derating stated by the manufacturer against the real temperature inside your panel, and leave the recommended spacing around the device so that heat can escape. Long cable runs between the field and the marshalling cabinet are common on large sites, so confirm the signal types, wiring limits and earthing arrangement early in the design.
It also helps to standardise on a small number of part numbers across a project. Keeping a few spare RM17TG00 units on site in Oman shortens recovery time after a fault, and documenting configuration settings makes replacement faster for the maintenance team.

About brand
Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones
- 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
- 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
- 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
- 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
- 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
- 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.
Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control
Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.
Where Schneider Electric products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.
APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power
Since 2007, APC has been part of Schneider Electric and is now its product brand for uninterruptible power supplies, replacement batteries, battery packs, network management cards and rack power distribution. Our APC catalogue covers Smart-UPS line-interactive and on-line models, Easy UPS On-Line, the modular Symmetra LX, RM and PX ranges, Silcon three-phase systems and their spare part kits, and the RBC cartridges that keep them running.
