Overview

The Rittal AX 9206.100 is an empty Ex enclosure with a hinged door, moulded from fibreglass-reinforced unsaturated polyester rather than metal. It belongs to the AX plastic Ex family that Rittal developed for explosion hazard areas such as refineries, petrochemical plants, energy installations and drilling platforms, and it is approved for Zones 1 and 2 as well as Zones 21 and 22 with explosion protection by increased safety (Ex e) and by enclosure (Ex tb). Construction of the Rittal AX 9206.100

The enclosure body of the Rittal AX 9206.100 is made in one piece from impact-resistant, glass-fibre-reinforced unsaturated polyester with a surface resistance below 10⁹ ohm, so static charge is dissipated safely. According to the manufacturer’s tender text it is self-extinguishing to UL 94 V-0 and is a class II insulated enclosure to VDE 100 part 410. The door uses the same material, with a circumferentially bonded silicone seal and a double sealing strip with an integral rain protection edge at the top and bottom of the door.

The symmetrical layout allows the whole enclosure to be rotated through 180 degrees, and the door has a stainless steel 130 degree hinge that can be changed from left to right. The finish is RAL 9011. A printed QR code on the body, mounting plate, door and type plate gives direct access to documentation and ensures traceability of the individual parts, which is a practical benefit when maintenance teams audit hazardous-area equipment.

Explosion Protection of the Rittal AX 9206.100

The Rittal AX 9206.100 is rated for Zone 1 and 2 or 21 and 22 under the ATEX Directive 2014/34, with explosion protection category to EN 60079 given as increased safety (Ex e) and enclosure protection (Ex tb). The ambient temperature range is −40 °C to +70 °C, although the installed equipment may limit it. Certificates listed on the datasheet are IEC Ex PTB 10.0011U and PTB 03 ATEX 1011U, and approvals also include ATEX and IECEx quality assurance and UR and C-UR recognition.

These are component certificates for an empty enclosure. The installer must still verify the complete assembly, including terminals, glands, heat dissipation and any equipment fitted, so that the finished panel meets the requirements of the hazardous area where it will operate.
