JUMO flowTRANS MAG S01 Electromagnetic Flowmeter

Description

A flanged electromagnetic flowmeter for water, chemicals and process lines

The JUMO flowTRANS MAG S01 (type 406012) is an industrial electromagnetic flowmeter built for the chemical, energy, water and wastewater, oil and gas, paper and pulp, metal and mechanical-engineering industries. It comes in nominal widths from DN 10 to DN 300 with PTFE or hard-rubber lining, electrodes in stainless steel, Hastelloy C, titanium, tantalum or platinum-iridium, and DIN or ASME flanges in PN 10, 16, 40, Class 150 and Class 300. The transmitter uses a graphical display with non-contact keys and a softkey menu, offers diagnostic help texts and empty-pipe detection, and talks HART as standard with PROFIBUS-PA as an option. Standard accuracy is 0.4 % of measured value, with 0.2 % as an option. The device is offered as a compact unit or as a remote-mount sensor with a separate transmitter, and with Ex zone 2 or zone 1 versions.

Understanding the 28-step order code

The code starts 406012/ design (1 compact, 2 remote) – Ex protection (0 or 1) – nominal width (0010 to 0300) – lining (01 PTFE, 06 hard rubber) – electrode version (1 standard, 5 bullet-nose) – electrode material (02 Hastelloy, 03 titanium, 04 tantalum, 06 platinum-iridium, 07 stainless steel) – grounding accessories – process connection (11 PN 10, 12 PN 16, 14 PN 40, 20 CL150, 21 CL300) – connection material (01 steel, 02 stainless) – certificates – calibration (1 standard, 2 enhanced) – ambient temperature – nameplate – and so on through supply (1 AC 100 to 230 V, 2 AC/DC 24 V), signals (1 HART with passive 20 mA, 2 active, 3 active with contact output, 4 PROFIBUS-PA) and a final block of option codes for preamplifier, M12 plug, single or dual-compartment transmitter housing, Gore-Tex membrane, test points and documentation language (German, English, French, Spanish). The transmitter is also orderable alone as type 406018. Because the combinations are many, JUMO asks that the order details be generated from the sheet and checked.

Sizing and installation

Select the nominal width so normal flow lies between about 0.5 and 10 m/s, and pick lining and electrodes from the medium: PTFE for aggressive chemicals and higher temperatures, hard rubber for water, slurries and abrasion; platinum-iridium or tantalum for acids. The meter needs a full pipe and the datasheet describes empty-pipe detection and grounding accessories. Ex zone 1 versions use a dual-compartment transmitter housing and the signal cable fixed to the transmitter. Typical Gulf uses are desalination and potable-water pipelines, chemical dosing, cooling-water loops, mining slurries and wastewater. Compare the insertion type in the published flowTRANS MAG I02 and the hygienic flowTRANS MAG H20. Browse the flowmeters category for other principles.

An enquiry should give the nominal width, the medium and its conductivity, which must be above 5 µS/cm, and the temperature and pressure. Choose the lining (hard rubber or PTFE), the electrode material and the flange standard, such as EN 1092-1 PN 10, 16 or 40 or ASME Class 150 or 300. State whether the compact or the remote design is needed, and the signal cable length in the remote design, because longer than 50 m requires a preamplifier. Outputs include 4 to 20 mA with HART, a pulse output and optocoupler contacts. Supply options are AC 100 to 230 V, AC 24 V and DC 24 V.

The meter has no moving parts and no pressure loss in the open pipe bore, so it suits dirty water, slurries, chemicals and wastewater. Straight inlet and outlet runs and full-pipe conditions remain important for accuracy, as does proper earthing of the medium.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
