ABB FAIO-01 Analog I/O Extension Module for ABB Drives
Description
Extra analog channels for ABB drives
The FAIO-01 is an analog I/O extension that adds two analog inputs and two analog outputs to an ABB drive. It is chosen when standard control board I/O is not enough for pressure, flow or temperature signals.
Inputs accept 0-20 mA, 0-2 V or 0-10 V, unipolar or bipolar, selected by jumpers and parameters. Outputs deliver 0-20 mA into loads up to 700 ohm.
Technical specifications
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Type designation | FAIO-01 |
| Analog inputs | 2, 0-20 mA, 0-2 V or 0-10 V, unipolar or bipolar |
| Analog outputs | 2, 0-20 mA, max 700 ohm load |
| Accuracy | Plus or minus 0.2% |
| Resolution | 15/16 bit |
| Extra function | Motor temperature measurement |
| Approvals | cULus |
| Mounting | Option slot or FEA-03 |
Signals and accuracy
Accuracy is stated as plus or minus 0.2% with 15 or 16 bit resolution, good enough for process feedback loops handled inside the drive.
A motor temperature measurement function is also described, which can replace a separate relay in some applications.
Typical uses
The module is cULus listed, which matters in North American projects.
Place the module in a drive slot or on an FEA-03 adapter if the slots are full.
Selection and planning notes
Analog I/O choices matter more than they appear. A 4-20 mA signal is easier to supervise than 0-10 V because a broken wire is visible as a reading below 4 mA, and it tolerates longer cable runs. Use shielded twisted pair, earth the shield at one end only and keep signal cables away from motor cables. If the drive uses the extra inputs for a PID loop, scale and filter them in the control program rather than in the field device.
Further drives and options are listed in AC drives; the ACS580 platform is introduced on the ABB ACS580 page. Ask us which control programs accept the module.
For temperature work, a short note: motor temperature sensors connected through the module still need correct sensor type selection in the drive parameters, and the cable should be shielded and routed apart from power wiring. Test the readings against a reference thermometer at a known temperature before relying on alarm limits. Keep a printout of the jumper positions in the cabinet documents, because a changed jumper is not visible from the drive parameter list and can be forgotten during maintenance. Also keep the sensor cable length short and note the analog scaling in the parameter backup. Keep the calibration record with the drawings for future service visits.
For service teams, store a spare module together with a printed jumper map, the scaling values and the date of the last calibration check, so a replacement can be fitted and checked within minutes during a shutdown.
Documents and quotation
Seven Star LLC supplies the FAIO-01 on request from Muscat; send the drive type, control program version and the network details, and we reply with availability and lead time. The user manual (FAIO-01 UM C) is linked on this page.
Confirm before ordering: supported drive and program, jumper settings, signal range, output load and the manual revision.

About brand
ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive
ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.
Where ABB products are used
In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.

Ordering ABB products: what we need
Send the full type code from the nameplate (for example ACS580-01-046A-4 or 266DSH...) and, for spare parts, the ABB ID number (such as 3BSE008508R1 or 1SBL176001R3010). For drives, add the motor power and current and any option codes (+...). For instruments, send the complete order code, which sets range, materials and approvals. Baldor motors are listed on their own brand page.
Facts checked against ABB company filings and published histories of ASEA and Brown, Boveri & Cie, October 2026.
