Brand:

E.H. Wachs LDSF Large Diameter Split Frame 60 to 120 in

Description

Cold cutting and bevelling for very large pipe and vessels

The E.H. Wachs LDSF is a hydraulic split frame for cold cutting, bevelling, facing and counterboring on large-diameter pipe, vessels and flanges. Four standard sizes cover 60 to 120 in OD (DN1500 to DN3000), each size spanning a 15 in (381 mm) diameter range, and the machine cuts and bevels most wall thicknesses and materials in one pass.

It picks up where the DynaPrep MDSF range stops. The frame splits into quadrants for easier storage, transport and set-up, rigging blocks with multi-axial lifting eyes allow horizontal or vertical lifting, and an all-steel build with stiffener blocks at the split lines keeps the ring rigid on out-of-round work. Spring-loaded OD tracking slides hold the tool in continuous contact so the weld preparation keeps a consistent land.

The four LDSF sizes

Model Capacity range (A to B) Pinion clearance (C) Clearance with standard OD tracking slide (D)
LDSF 75 60 to 75 in (1524 to 1905 mm) 99 in (2515 mm) 111 in (2820 mm)
LDSF 90 75 to 90 in (1905 to 2286 mm) 114 in (2896 mm) 126 in (3200 mm)
LDSF 105 90 to 105 in (2286 to 2667 mm) 129 in (3277 mm) 141 in (3581 mm)
LDSF 120 105 to 120 in (2667 to 3048 mm) 144 in (3658 mm) 156 in (3962 mm)

The optional heavy-wall base slide raises dimension D by 6 in (for example 117 in on the LDSF 75). The datasheet adds that the working envelope can be reduced by removing stiffening blocks.

What to check before specifying an LDSF

Measure the actual outside diameter and match it to one of the four size bands, then check the clearance needed around the pipe against the table: the frame, drive motors and tracking slides need a much larger envelope than the pipe itself. Confirm that a hydraulic power unit of 14 gpm at 1,800 psi is available on site, since this machine is offered with hydraulic drive only.

If the job needs counterboring or reverse bevelling, request the counterbore and reverse bevel module, which bolts to the tracking slides. For hazardous or remote positions the remote-control feed trip is optional, and the breakaway single trip is intended to limit frame damage if the tool is mispositioned.

Documents and quotation

The LDSF datasheet can be opened from this page. For other cutting and bevelling machines browse Pipe Cutting & Bevelling Machines.

A quotation needs the pipe or vessel OD, wall thickness and material, the weld preparation, the access clearance and the hydraulic supply available.

About brand

E.H. Wachs makes portable machine tools for cold cutting and weld preparation of pipe, tube and pressure vessels. The company dates back to 1883, works from Lincolnshire, Illinois, and is a division of ITW. It is best known for the Trav-L-Cutter pipe cutter and for its Guillotine reciprocating pipe saws. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists E.H. Wachs machines for contractors and plant owners who need precise end preparation on site.

E.H. Wachs product groups

The catalogue covers handheld ID-mount bevellers such as the SDB series, the EP 424 end prep machine with AutoFeed, split frames from the small SDSF through DynaPrep MDSF to the large LDSF, Trav-L-Cutter chain-mounted milling machines, Guillotine pipe saws, flange facers, casing cutters and hydraulic power units. Many machines are also offered as rentals.

Ordering Wachs machines: what we need

State the model and drive (air, hydraulic or electric), the pipe diameter and wall thickness range, the material, and the weld preparation you need, such as bevel angle, compound bevel, J-prep or counterbore. Tooling is profile-specific, so give the bevel drawing or the Wachs tooling part number.

Frequently Asked Questions

What diameter range does the LDSF cover?
60 to 120 in OD (DN1500 to DN3000) in four models, each covering a 15 in diameter range.
How is it driven?
By dual hydraulic drive motors needing 14 gpm at 1,800 psi (53 lpm at 124 bar).
How is such a large frame transported?
The frame splits into quadrants for storage, transport and set-up, with rigging blocks for lifting horizontally or vertically.
Does it cope with out-of-round pipe?
Yes, spring-loaded OD tracking slides keep the tooling in contact with irregular pipe or vessels.
What options are available?
A counterbore and reverse bevel module, a cantilever tool slide, a remote control kit and Wachs tooling.
