Pandjiris MM-60/30-T Turning Roll 60 Ton

Description

Constant-centre power roll for heavy tanks and vessels

The Pandjiris MM-60/30-T is a constant-centreline power roll for rotating cylindrical shells during circumferential welding, fit-up and inspection. It is rated at 60 tons turning and 30 tons support, with an electronic variable-speed drive covering 2.0 to 61.4 in/min. Because the wheel pairs move symmetrically, the centreline of the work stays at a fixed position as the diameter changes, which keeps a welding head or manipulator boom aligned without re-setting its height for every job.

The power roll is paired with the MI-30-T idler roll, which carries 30 tons. One MM-60 power unit with one MI-30-T idler supports a 60 ton cylinder. Pandjiris drives the rolls through spur gears for a positive power flow, and the design needs less floor space than conventional rolls of the same size.

Setting up a roll line

Turning capacity and load capacity are separate checks. The load rating sets how much weight the wheels can carry, while the turning rating reflects the torque available to start and rotate an eccentric shell. Nozzles, manways, internal baffles or an unbalanced fixture all add eccentricity, so heavy unbalanced work may need a second power unit rather than a second idler.

Wheel spacing is changed in steps to match the shell; the sheet lists four spacing positions with wheel heights between 33.79 and 42.16 in. Keep the roll sections on a common level line and square to the shell axis, otherwise the work will drift along the rolls during rotation. Thrust rollers or anti-drift devices are used for long, thin-walled cylinders where drift is a concern.

Specify 460 V or 230 V when ordering, and confirm that the plant supply matches; 400 V or 415 V networks will need the voltage question raised at enquiry stage. When the roll line works under a submerged-arc head on a column and boom, the speed potentiometer on the pendant sets travel speed at the shell surface, so the welding parameters can be developed once and repeated on later shells of different diameters.

About brand

Pandjiris, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri, has built weld positioning and welding automation equipment for more than 75 years. Its range includes welding positioners, manipulators, turning rolls, self-centring grippers, seam welders, slides and swivels, head and tailstocks, turntables and weld controllers. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists the Pandjiris 30-6 positioner and sources Pandjiris positioning equipment for fabrication shops.

Pandjiris positioners and automation

Standard positioners run from small fixed-base and pinned-tilt units to power-elevating models for heavy loads, and drop-centre or gas-chambered versions are built to order. Pandjiris often combines positioners with manipulators to form mechanised cells for MIG (GMAW) and submerged arc work on pressure vessels, pipe, tanks and structural parts.

Ordering Pandjiris equipment: what we need

Give the model, base type and input voltage. For new applications, send the workpiece weight, its centre of gravity from the table face and its largest swing diameter. We check the rating against the Pandjiris specification sheet and provide it on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 60/30 mean on the Pandjiris MM-60/30-T?
The power roll has 60 tons turning capacity and 30 tons support capacity. One MM-60 with one MI-30-T idler supports 60 tons.
What diameter range does the MM-60/30-T cover?
