Tri Tool 224B BEVELMASTER Pipe Beveling Machine

Description

The Tri Tool 224B BEVELMASTER is a heavy ID-mounted lathe for beveling, facing and counterboring 8 in through 24 in pipe in all schedules. Its standard mandrel handles walls up to 59.4 mm (2.34 in), which puts thick-wall power, process and pipeline spools within reach of a portable machine. The motor, pneumatic or hydraulic, sits at a right angle to the head with an in-line feed knob behind.

Heavy-wall end prep from 8 in to 24 in

The complete machine with mandrel, drive motor and lifting frame weighs about 190 kg (420 lb), so it is lifted into the bore with a hoist using the adjustable lifting frame supplied. Once the draw rod has expanded the three-jaw mandrel head, the lathe is self-centred and takes its own cutting torque. Tubing or pipe with walls heavier than 2.34 in can still be machined if the ID is above 6.813 in and the OD below 24 in.

The system comprises the 224B sub-assembly, three tool holders, mandrel assembly, three-jaw mandrel head, lathe lifting frame, drive motor, wrench kit and operator’s manual. Tool bits are not included.

Choosing the drive socket and options

The 224B offers a high-speed and a low-speed drive socket. The low-speed socket halves head speed for the large diameters and heavy cuts where torque matters; the high-speed socket suits smaller pipe in the range. Optional accessories are a Single Point module kit, ID tracking module kit, miter mandrel head kit and a floor stand. Materials follow the BEVELMASTER family: mild and chrome steels (Rc 35 max.), stainless steel, copper-nickel and aluminium, with Tri Tool engineering support for Inconel and similar alloys.

Before mobilising a lathe of this size, check the clearance behind the pipe end for the motor and feed handle, and confirm that the hoist can reach the bore centreline. On hydraulic drive, hose length between the power unit and the lathe should also be planned so that the operator can stand clear of the rotating head. Tool bits are chosen for each end preparation and material and are ordered separately.

About brand

Tri Tool designs portable precision machine tools for weld end preparation and on-site machining, and its history goes back to 1972, when the company was co-founded by Dr. George J. Wernette. It works from Rancho Cordova, California. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Tri Tool BEVELMASTER pipe beveling machines, including the 208B, and the 602TSB clamshell pipe lathe, and sources Tri Tool equipment for piping contractors.

Tri Tool product groups

The catalogue covers pipe beveling machines, pipe facing tools including offshore versions, tube facing and squaring tools, tube severing tools, heat exchanger tube facing tools, hydraulic power units and Walhonde line-up clamps. Alongside the standard machines the company offers custom-engineered tools, field machining services and equipment rentals, with applications in power generation, oil and gas, aerospace and government work.

Ordering Tri Tool machines: what we need

State the model and the drive (air, hydraulic or electric), the pipe size and schedule range, the material and the end preparation you need, such as bevel, compound bevel, facing or counterbore. Tool bits are profile-specific, so give the bevel angle and land, or the Tri Tool part number.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pipe sizes does the Tri Tool 224B handle?
8 in through 24 in pipe in all schedules.
What wall thickness can the 224B machine?
Up to 2.34 in (59.4 mm) with the standard mandrel.
Which drives are available?
Pneumatic (95 cfm at 90 psi) or hydraulic from a separate power unit such as the 765RVC.
Why are there two drive sockets?
The low-speed socket gives more torque at lower head speed for large or heavy cuts.
How is the 224B lifted into the pipe?
It comes with an adjustable lathe lifting frame for hoisting; complete weight is about 420 lb.
