Mitsubishi FR-A840 FR-A800 Series 400 V Inverter

Description

Overview

The Mitsubishi FR-A840 is the 400 V class standard model of the Mitsubishi Electric FR-A800 inverter series, which Mitsubishi Electric markets under the theme of outstanding performance and uncompromising quality. The FR-A840 drives three-phase induction motors and permanent magnet motors from a 380 to 500 V supply and spans applicable motor capacities from 0.4 kW to 280 kW at normal duty, or up to 355 kW at super light duty. One family therefore covers small conveyors and pumps through to large fans, compressors and process drives.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Mitsubishi FR-A840 range, together with options such as communication cards, DC reactors and brake units, to panel builders, OEMs and plant maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC. We help size the drive for the motor, duty and ambient conditions, and provide model selection support from Muscat.

Operating Principle

The Mitsubishi FR-A840 rectifies the incoming AC supply to a DC bus and then uses an IGBT inverter stage with Soft-PWM or high carrier frequency PWM to create a variable voltage, variable frequency output for the motor. The user can select V/F control, advanced magnetic flux vector control, real sensorless vector control, optimum excitation control, vector control with an encoder option, or PM sensorless vector control. Output frequency ranges from 0.2 to 590 Hz, with a 400 Hz upper limit under the vector modes.

Under real sensorless vector or vector control, Mitsubishi Electric lists starting torque at 0.3 Hz of 120 percent at SLD rating, 150 percent at LD, 200 percent at ND and 250 percent at HD. Torque limit can be set from 0 to 400 percent, and acceleration and deceleration times from 0 to 3600 s with linear or S-pattern curves. In general terms, sensorless vector control gives high torque at low speed without a motor encoder, which suits extruders, mixers, hoists and positive displacement pumps.

Engineering Design of the Mitsubishi FR-A840

Each Mitsubishi FR-A840 can be set to one of four overload ratings. SLD (super light duty) allows 110 percent for 60 s at 40 degrees C surrounding air, LD allows 120 percent for 60 s, ND (the initial setting) 150 percent for 60 s and HD 200 percent for 60 s, all at 50 degrees C. This lets one inverter be applied to a larger fan or pump motor at light duty or a smaller, heavily loaded motor at heavy duty. Smaller frames have an enclosed IP20 structure and larger frames are open type IP00 for mounting inside panels; a built-in brake transistor is provided on smaller frames.

Inputs include analog terminals for 0 to 10 V, 0 to 5 V and 4 to 20 mA, twelve programmable digital inputs and 100 kpulse/s pulse train input; outputs include five open collector signals, two relay outputs and pulse train output. The series offers RS-485 and Ethernet communication types, plug-in options for other networks, a built-in PLC function, PID control, and a Safe Torque Off function to ISO 13849-1 Category 3 PLe. Models with a built-in Class C3 or C2 EMC filter and coated circuit boards are available.

Key Features

The main advantages of the Mitsubishi FR-A840 are listed below.

  • One 400 V family covers 0.4 to 280 kW at normal duty, and up to 355 kW at super light duty.
  • Four selectable overload ratings (SLD, LD, ND, HD) match the drive to fan, pump or heavy-duty loads.
  • Control modes range from V/F to real sensorless vector, closed-loop vector and PM sensorless vector.
  • Starting torque reaches 200 percent at 0.3 Hz at ND rating under sensorless vector control.
  • Safe Torque Off is supported to ISO 13849-1 Category 3 PLe.
  • A built-in PLC function and PID control allow simple local logic without an external controller.
  • RS-485 and Ethernet models, plus plug-in options, connect the drive to most plant networks.
  • Built-in EMC filter variants and circuit board coating help in electrically noisy or harsh environments.

Industrial Applications

The Mitsubishi FR-A840 is used on centrifugal pumps and fans, compressors, cooling towers, conveyors, crushers, mixers, cranes, winders and extruders. In water and wastewater plants, the SLD and LD ratings allow energy-saving speed control of large pumps, while the HD rating suits high-inertia or shock loads in cement, mining and materials handling. Oil and gas and petrochemical sites in Oman also use FR-A800 drives for auxiliary pumps, air coolers and HVAC plant in the Sohar and Duqm industrial zones.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Mitsubishi FR-A840 and its options to integrators, contractors and end users in Muscat and across the GCC, from our office in Muscat. Sizing Notes

When selecting a Mitsubishi FR-A840, start from the motor rated current rather than kW alone, then choose the overload rating that reflects the real load. The catalog advises that inverters and motors of 75 kW or higher should always be used with a DC reactor (FR-HEL option). For panels in hot Gulf environments, the surrounding air temperature limits of 40 degrees C at SLD and 50 degrees C at other ratings should be respected with adequate ventilation or panel cooling.

About brand
Laboratories that run an NSX-2100 trace sulfur, nitrogen or chlorine analyzer usually know it as a Mitsubishi instrument. The nameplate reads Mitsubishi Chemical Analytech, a name later changed to Nittoseiko Analytech. Seven Star LLC lists the TN6RPC gas tube dryer set for this analyzer and sources NSX-2100 consumables for refinery and fuel-testing laboratories in Oman and the GCC.

Mitsubishi NSX-2100 parts

The NSX-2100 was built with a horizontal or a vertical furnace, and one furnace can serve several detectors. The dryer set removes water from the combustion gas before it reaches the detector. Like the connection kits, it is a consumable, and its part code changes with the analyzer variant.

Ordering NSX-2100 consumables: what we need

Send the part code, for example TN6RPC, together with the exact analyzer model shown on the nameplate (the letters after NSX-2100 indicate furnace type and detectors), the serial number and the detectors fitted. Some original part codes have been replaced by newer ones, so we check each code against the manufacturer's current parts list before quoting.
