Yokogawa ADMAG AXG Magnetic Flowmeter

Description

Overview: Total Insight Built Into Every Measurement

The Yokogawa ADMAG AXG is a high-quality, highly reliable magnetic flowmeter developed on decades of field-proven experience, enhanced by Yokogawa’s proprietary dual-frequency excitation method for stable, accurate measurement even under difficult process noise conditions. As part of Yokogawa’s ADMAG Total Insight (TI) concept, the AXG features enhanced settings for customized setups, pre-defined trend views, and multiple configuration sets accessible through a micro SD card, with built-in verification functionality that reduces total cost of ownership.

As a trusted supplier of Yokogawa flow instrumentation, Seven Star LLC sources and supplies the ADMAG AXG magnetic flowmeter to oil and gas, chemical, and water treatment facilities across Oman and the wider GCC. Because the AXG’s Total Insight diagnostic and communication features scale across a wide range of application-specific options, Seven Star LLC helps engineering teams configure the correct sensor, transmitter, and protocol combination for each measurement point.

Measurement Principle

The AXG measures flow via Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, with Yokogawa’s dual-frequency excitation method combining traditional high- and low-frequency excitation approaches to ensure greater stability and quicker response even when line noise or other disturbances are present. This is particularly valuable in severe applications such as aluminum slurry flow, pulp stock to a digester blow tank, or brine and caustic measurement in chlor-alkali electrolyzer cells, where a conventional single-frequency magmeter would struggle with signal stability.

Application Diagnostic functionality actively utilizes flow noise to detect specific process conditions, including gas bubble contamination, electrode corrosion, low conductivity, and slurry noise, categorizing findings into alarm states (persistent abnormal conditions) or warning states (early signs of abnormality) so operators can distinguish between an immediate problem and a developing trend. A total of 28 system and process alarms can be individually classified according to NAMUR NE107, letting each alarm be adapted to specific process requirements rather than generating unnecessary distraction for plant operators.

Engineering Design of the ADMAG AXG

The AXG flow sensor covers diameters from 0.1 to 20 inch (2.5 to 500 mm) with ceramic or PFA liner options, delivering standard accuracy of ±0.3% of rate, or high accuracy of ±0.15% of rate on sizes 1 to 8 inch (25-200mm). Explosion-proof versions are available from 0.1 to 16 inch (2.5-400mm), submersible versions from 0.5 to 20 inch (15-500mm), and hygienic versions from 0.5 to 5 inch (15-125mm), giving specifiers a version matched to nearly any installation environment or process media.

Built-in verification checks the magnetic circuit, excitation circuit, computing circuit, alarm history, and cable connection, with built-in and standard verification accurate within ±5% of factory accuracy, and enhanced verification (using peripheral devices) accurate within ±2%. Backward compatibility with the AXG4A converter allows integration with older flow sensors and existing signal/excitation cables, and worldwide approvals including explosion-proof, SIL, EMC, and NAMUR support deployment across diverse regulatory environments. The AXG is also certified NSF61 for drinking water applications and carries SIL2 certification (simplex) or SIL3 (redundant configuration) per IEC 61508.

Wetted Materials and Process Compatibility

Specifying a magnetic flowmeter correctly is largely a question of matching the wetted parts to the process chemistry, and the Yokogawa ADMAG AXG offers an unusually broad electrode palette for that purpose. Electrodes are available in stainless steel 316L and 329J4L, platinum-iridium, nickel alloy (UNS N10276), tantalum, and titanium, which between them cover everything from potable water and general utility duty to hot caustic, seawater, and strongly oxidising acids. PFA and ceramic liners are offered against the same size range, with PFA-lined sensors rated for process temperatures up to 180°C in the appropriate application configuration. Minimum fluid conductivity is typically in the region of 1 to 3 µS/cm depending on sensor size and configuration, so hydrocarbon service remains outside the scope of the technology and should be referred to Coriolis or ultrasonic alternatives.

On the mechanical side, the sensor is supplied to ASME Class 150 and Class 300, EN PN10/PN16/PN25, JIS and JPI flange standards, with maximum working pressure following the flange rating and size – up to 3.0 MPa on ASME Class 150 and 6.0 MPa on Class 300 in the relevant sizes. Stainless steel 316L grounding rings, in either single or dual metal-hat arrangements, establish the reference potential needed for a clean signal when the meter is installed in lined or plastic pipework. The housing carries an IP66/IP67 and Type 4X rating and an ambient range of −40 to 60°C, with vibration immunity tested to 34.3 m/s² rms over 5 to 2000 Hz per IEC 60068-2-64 – a combination well matched to outdoor pipe racks and pump-adjacent installations across Oman and the GCC, where summer ambient temperatures and mechanical vibration together defeat lesser instruments.

Industrial Applications

The ADMAG AXG is deployed across oil and gas, chemical, pulp and paper, food and beverage, metal and mining, and water and wastewater applications, including chlor-alkali electrolysis, digester blow lines, CIP (clean-in-place) processes, and drinking water systems where NSF61 approval is required. Its dual-frequency excitation and Application Diagnostic functions make it particularly well suited to abrasive slurries and other severe process conditions that challenge conventional magmeters.

Seven Star LLC supports oil and gas operators, chemical plants, and water treatment facilities across Oman, Muscat, Sohar, and the broader GCC region with sourcing of Yokogawa ADMAG AXG flowmeters, helping projects achieve reliable, diagnosable flow measurement across demanding applications.

About brand

Yokogawa is the Japanese measurement and industrial automation company behind the DPharp EJA and EJX pressure transmitters, CENTUM distributed control systems and ProSafe-RS safety systems. Tamisuke Yokogawa set it up in 1915 as an electric meter research institute in Shibuya, Tokyo. It began selling electric meters in 1917, was incorporated as Yokogawa Electric Works in 1920, and has been Yokogawa Electric Corporation since 1986. In 1975 it released CENTUM, which it describes as the world's first distributed control system.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Yokogawa transmitters, flowmeters, analysers, controllers, recorders and CENTUM and ProSafe spare modules, and supply them to oil and gas, power, water and process plants in Oman and the GCC by model code.

The EJA and EJX transmitters use Yokogawa's DPharp sensor: two silicon resonators whose vibration frequency changes with pressure, so the output is a digital frequency rather than an analogue strain signal. The model code describes the instrument completely. In EJA110E, "110" is a differential pressure transmitter, and the letters after the dash set the span, wetted materials, process connection, electrical output and approvals. When you replace a transmitter, sending the full code from the nameplate avoids a mismatch in range or materials.

Where Yokogawa products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Yokogawa transmitters, analysers and control systems are found in oil and gas production, gas processing and LNG, refineries and petrochemical plants, power and desalination stations, and water treatment. Many plants still run CENTUM CS 3000 and CENTUM VP systems that need spare I/O modules and batteries.

Ordering Yokogawa products: what we need
