Yokogawa UP35A / UP32A Compact Program Controller

A small program controller for single-recipe ramp and soak jobs

The Yokogawa UP35A (96 x 96 mm) and UP32A (48 x 96 mm) bring a programmable setpoint profile to the compact UTAdvanced case. They are the smaller counterparts of the UP55A: a UP35A stores 2 program patterns of up to 20 segments in total (4 patterns and 40 segments with the /AP option), which is enough for a fixed ramp-and-soak recipe on a small oven, kiln, press platen, dryer or test fixture without the cost of a large-memory controller. Each pattern has up to 20 segments, a segment time of 0.00 to 999.59 (hours and minutes or minutes and seconds) or a slope, and 0 to 999 repeat cycles or continuous repetition.

Two PV events and four time events can drive outputs during a profile, and the controller shares the UTAdvanced colour LCD, ladder sequence function, universal input, 65 mm depth and IP66 front. Control modes include single loop, PID and heating/cooling, with the Super function suppressing overshoot.

Model code and options

The UP35A code has Type 1 (basic control: -0 standard, -1 position proportional, -2 heating/cooling), Type 2 (0 none, 1 five additional DIs and five DOs), Type 3 (open network: 0 none, 1 RS-485 up to 38.4 kbps, 2 Ethernet with serial gateway, 3 CC-Link, 4 PROFIBUS-DP, 5 DeviceNet), display language (-1 English, -2 German, -3 French, -4 Spanish), case colour (0 white, 1 black) and the fixed code -00. Option codes are /AP for 2 additional patterns and 20 additional segments, /HA heater break alarm (Type 1 -0 or -2 only), /DC 24 V AC/DC supply, /CT coating and /CV terminal cover. The /CT option removes UL, CSA and CE conformity. The UP32A has the same Type 1 choices, a Type 2 list of 0 (none), 1 (RS-485) and 2 (two extra DIs and DOs), and Type 3 limited to none or CC-Link. Standard equipment on both is a retransmission output or 15 V DC loop supply, three digital inputs and three digital outputs.

Choosing between the UP35A, UP32A and UP55A

Pick the UP35A or UP32A for a fixed profile of up to about 20 segments with a small number of recipes. If operators need to store dozens of recipes, link patterns, run many events or time outputs, move to the UP55A, which stores 30 patterns and 300 segments (99 and 600 with /AP), has 8 PV events, 16 time events and 8 DIs and DOs as standard. For fixed-setpoint control without a profile, the UT35A is the equivalent compact case. Confirm the number of recipes, segments and repeats, the sensor type, output actuator, the network required and panel size (the UP32A fits a 45 x 92 mm cutout).

Installation and what to confirm before ordering

The unit is 65 mm deep, weighs 0.5 kg or less and wires with M3 screw terminals; supply is 100 to 240 V AC or 24 V AC/DC with /DC.
