Tokyo Keiso MAGMAX EGM2100C Compact Electromagnetic Flowmeter

Description

Compact electromagnetic flowmeter for water, sewage and hot water

The Tokyo Keiso MAGMAX EGM2100C is a lower-cost compact electromagnetic flowmeter for water, sewage and hot water. It combines the EGS2000 primary head, lined with polypropylene or hard rubber, with the EGC100 converter, and adds empty-pipe detection and conductivity monitoring to the self-diagnostics.

Sizes from 25 mm to 1000 mm are offered. Polypropylene liners (25 to 150 mm) are rated for process temperatures up to 90 °C, which suits hot water, while hard rubber covers 25 to 1000 mm up to 80 °C. Electrodes are Hastelloy C22 as standard, and the catalogue states 0.5% of reading accuracy with fast data processing for batch control and pulsating flow.

Features that help on water and sewage lines

The extendable excitation system suits fluids with noise such as slurry, and the excitation frequency can be switched from the standard one-sixth of supply frequency to a special mode between 1/50 and half of supply frequency. Double-range measurement (low range 5 to 80% of the high range) switches automatically, and flow alarms, empty-pipe detection, error and range identification are available on the status output. Push buttons below the cover allow settings to be changed without opening the converter section.

The unit stores operation parameters and totals in non-volatile memory for more than ten years, simulates current, pulse and status outputs for loop checks, and supports user-defined units of seven characters.

Selection and ordering notes

The liner decides the temperature and pressure limits, so the catalogue includes tables of temperature, pressure and permissible vacuum load by liner and size, plus a liner and flange combination table. Vacuum is not accepted with polypropylene at 90 °C, and larger hard-rubber sizes need a higher minimum absolute pressure than small ones. For sizes above 1000 mm Tokyo Keiso asks for a consultation. This meter is intended for non-hazardous service; the catalogue lists a general (non-explosion-proof) type only.

How the Tokyo Keiso EGM2100C works

Coils around the measuring tube make a magnetic field across the flow. Water is a conductor, so a moving column of water makes a small voltage between two electrodes. The voltage is in proportion to the flow velocity. The converter amplifies this voltage and turns it into flow, total and output signals.
