Swan AMI LineTOC Online TOC Analyzer for Pure and Ultra-Pure Water (Discontinued by Swan)

Description

Reagent-free TOC measurement by UV oxidation and conductivity

The Swan AMI LineTOC determines organic components in water, which gives an extensive statement about its purity. The manual says the combination of an efficient oxidation technique with modern detection supports accurate monitoring of pure and ultra-pure water, and that the application range covers the pharmaceutical industry and ultra pure water (UPW) applications.

Status note: swan.ch lists the AMI LineTOC AC (article A-23.612.100) as a Discontinued Product. Swan lists this product on swan.ch as a Discontinued Product that can no longer be added to a quote request, so any supply depends on remaining stock and the manual below describes the instrument as it was documented by Swan. Swan lists a newer AMI-II range as separate products.

Measuring principle and modes

The sample is measured by conductivity before and after oxidation with UV light. Before oxidation the conductivity corresponds to total inorganic carbon, after oxidation to total carbon, and the TOC is calculated from the difference. The sample is kept at 42 to 43 C during measurement and calibration, so temperature dependence normally does not need to be considered. The conductivity model CO2 is an absolute method and needs no alignment with TOC standards.

The menu is divided into Pharma and UPW measuring modes, and the instrument has on-line and grab sample operation. In Pharma mode some options are replaced by fixed values because of the restrictive pharmacopoeia rules. The manual refers to ISO 8245, USP 643 and Ph. Eur. 2.2.44, notes the 500 ppb TOC limit for WFI and purified water and describes an automatic system suitability test (SST) that needs two standard solutions.

Models, verification and availability

Two models are described: the vertical panel AMI LineTOC and a compact version on a smaller horizontal panel with an optional protective cover. Verification, which requires the CO2 conductivity model, is carried out with a standard solution of known TOC concentration and is required by regulations such as USP and EP. The function test is not available on the compact version.

Because Swan has discontinued this model, ask for availability and consider whether the AMI-II LineTOC, which Swan lists as a separate product, is acceptable. State the mode (Pharma or UPW), standard or compact version, sample cooler and pressure regulator options in the enquiry.

About brand

Swan Analytical Instruments (SWAN Analytische Instrumente AG) is a Swiss manufacturer of online water analysers, founded on 1 January 1991 in Hinwil by a group of engineers, chemists and physicists. It started with swimming pool and sanitary water, then grew quickly in water-steam cycle monitoring for power plants and ultrapure water for semiconductors. Swan is 100 % employee-owned.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list selected Swan AMI analyzers for power, desalination and water plants in Oman and the GCC.
