Swan AMI Powercon Specific and Acid Conductivity Analyzer (Discontinued by Swan)
Description
Specific and acid conductivity for power cycle water
The Swan AMI Powercon is documented in one manual for two instruments. The AMI Powercon Specific measures the specific (total) conductivity of a sample, while the AMI Powercon Acid measures acid (cation) conductivity and is delivered with a cation exchanger bottle. Both are intended for conductivity measurement in power cycles, using a two-electrode sensor with an integrated Pt1000 temperature sensor such as the Swansensor UP-Con1000.
Status note: swan.ch shows the AMI Powercon Specific (A-23.441.100) and the AMI Powercon-Acid (A-23.445.101) as Discontinued Products. Swan lists this product on swan.ch as a Discontinued Product that can no longer be added to a quote request, so any supply depends on remaining stock and the manual below describes the instrument as it was documented by Swan. Swan lists a newer AMI-II range as separate products.

Specific versus acid conductivity
Specific conductivity includes all ions in the sample, mainly the alkalizing agent, which masks the contribution of impurities. In the Acid version the alkalizing agent is removed in a cation column. All cations are exchanged for hydrogen ions and anionic impurities pass through, so the reading reflects the impurities. After a cation exchanger the temperature compensation curve for strong acids has to be set.
The conductivity is compensated to 25 C. Selectable curves include none, coefficient, neutral salts, high-purity water, strong acids, strong bases, ammonia and ethanolamine, and morpholine. The sensor cell constant is set by the manufacturer and printed on the sensor label, so no field calibration is needed once it is programmed in the transmitter.
Pre-rinse option and ordering notes
The AMI Powercon Acid with the pre-rinse option has a second cation exchanger bottle, which is pre-rinsed so that the resin can be replaced quickly. Pre-rinsing removes contaminants from the resin that might cause wrong readings. Both resin bottles are vented through small tubes to the sample collector.
Because the model is discontinued, state in the enquiry whether the Specific or Acid version, AC or DC supply and the pre-rinse option are required, and ask for current availability. Swan lists AMI-II Powercon transmitters and other conductivity analyzers as separate products.
How the Swan AMI Powercon works
A two-electrode sensor measures the electrical conductivity of the sample. A built-in Pt1000 sensor corrects the value for temperature. On the Acid version, the sample first passes a cation exchanger. This removes the alkalizing agent, so the reading shows the impurities such as chloride and sulfate.

About brand
Swan Analytical is the brand of Swan Analytische Instrumente AG, a Swiss manufacturer in Hinwil that has built online water analyzers since 1991. Its AMI range monitors water quality continuously in power plant steam and water cycles, ultra-pure water, potable water, pools, pharmaceutical and semiconductor processes. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and lists selected Swan AMI analyzers for power and water plants.
Swan AMI analyzer families
Swan builds panel-mounted AMI monitors for disinfectants (Codes-II, Trides), dissolved oxygen (Oxytrace), conductivity (Powercon), silica (Silitrace), sodium (Soditrace, Sodium A and P), hydrazine, turbidity (Turbiwell, Turbitrace) and total organic carbon (LineTOC). Some earlier AMI models are shown as discontinued on swan.ch, where a newer AMI-II range is listed separately.
Ordering Swan analyzers: what we need
Send the model, measuring range, AC or DC supply, number of sample streams and options. We confirm the model status and the configuration against the Swan operator manual before quoting. Reagents and sensor consumables are ordered separately.
