Lovato DMG200 Three-Phase Digital Multimeter 4-Module DIN

Description

A 4-module DIN rail multimeter with a graphic LCD and true RMS

The Lovato DMG200 is a modular digital multimeter and power analyzer for three-phase systems up to 690 Vac phase to phase. It occupies four DIN rail modules (72 mm) and combines a 128 x 80 pixel graphic backlit LCD with true RMS measurement, continuous gapless sampling in a compact housing. The DMG200 is the basic version of the DMG family; the DMG210 adds an RS485 port.

The DMG200 measures a wide set of electrical parameters, including phase, line and system voltages, phase currents with the neutral current calculated, active, reactive and apparent power, power factor, frequency, harmonic distortion (THD) of voltage and current, maximum demand and energy counters.

Using the DMG200 in distribution panels

The multimeter is a good fit for main incomers, motor control centre feeders, generator and transformer monitoring and any point where the operator needs voltage, current, power factor and harmonic distortion on one screen. Highest, lowest and average values, maximum demand of current and power, asymmetric voltage and current readings and an hour counter are available for each page, and highest peaks are kept even when auxiliary power is removed.

The DMG200 has no communication port, so it is a local indication instrument; if the readings must reach a PLC, SCADA or energy management system, choose the DMG210 with RS485 instead. Setup is done from the front keyboard. The current inputs are for external 5 A current transformers; a Rogowski coil input is not provided on this model.

Selection notes

Select the CT ratio and class to suit the load and the accuracy needed, and use voltage transformers for medium-voltage systems. The DMG200 is a panel multimeter; where billing-grade metering is required, check Lovato’s dedicated energy meter range. Confirm the supply range of the auxiliary input, the wiring mode for your network and the communication settings (address, baud rate, parity) with the controls integrator before ordering.

Key features of the DMG200

  • True RMS with continuous sampling: readings stay correct on distorted waveforms from drives, UPS systems and LED lighting, where average-responding meters under- or over-read.
  • Wide measuring range: one model covers low-voltage networks up to 690 Vac phase to phase, so the same spare can be stocked for 400 V and 690 V switchboards.
  • Harmonic indication: voltage and current THD on the display give a first warning of harmonic problems before capacitor banks or transformers overheat.
  • Demand and peak memory: maximum demand and highest values are retained, which helps size feeders and check whether a breaker is close to its limit.
  • Wide auxiliary supply: 100–240 Vac or 110–250 Vdc lets the meter run from the panel control voltage or a station battery.
  • Compact 4-module housing: fits on the same DIN rail as breakers and relays, without a door cut-out.

Wiring and set-up guidance

Before energising, choose the wiring mode in the setup menu that matches the network: three-phase with neutral, three-phase without neutral, balanced three-phase, two-phase or single-phase. Enter the CT primary current so readings are shown in primary amperes, and if voltage transformers are used, enter their ratio too. Fit protective fuses on the voltage inputs and auxiliary supply, and always short-circuit CT secondaries with a shorting terminal block before removing the meter, since an open CT secondary can produce dangerous voltages. Observe the CT polarity (S1/S2) and the phase sequence; a reversed CT shows negative active power on that phase, which is the most common commissioning error.

Choosing current transformers

Pick a CT primary close to the expected full-load current so the meter works in the upper part of its range, where accuracy is best. A 5 A secondary is required. For energy readings that matter, a CT accuracy class of 0.5 or better is a sensible match for a class 1 meter; for indication only, class 1 is usually adequate.

Use in Oman and GCC panels

The operating range of −20 to +60 °C suits most indoor switchrooms in the region, including LV panels in substations, villas, commercial towers and industrial plants. Where panels sit in hot, unventilated rooms or outdoor feeder pillars, the internal temperature should still be checked against this limit. The IP40 front protects against solid objects but not against water or fine dust, so mount the meter behind a closed panel door in dusty areas such as quarries and construction sites. On generator-supplied sites, the frequency, voltage asymmetry and THD pages are useful to check generator loading and power quality. Typical uses include monitoring main incomers, AC chiller feeders, pump MCCs and solar PV interconnection boards.

What to include in your RFQ

  • Model DMG200, or DMG210 if RS485 communication is needed.
  • Quantity and network voltage (phase to phase).
  • CT ratio, and whether matching CTs should be quoted.
  • Auxiliary supply voltage available in the panel.
