SICK DFS60B-S4PA10000 Incremental Encoder, 10,000 PPR

Description

A 10,000 pulse TTL/HTL incremental encoder with M23 connector

The SICK DFS60B-S4PA10000 is a rugged incremental encoder from the DFS60 family. It outputs 10,000 pulses per revolution with a zero pulse, using a six-channel TTL or HTL interface that is set to TTL at the factory, and is intended for speed and position feedback on drives, conveyors, winders and machine tools.

The housing uses a 60 mm face-mount flange with a 10 mm solid shaft, so it fits standard servo-flange layouts. A radial M23 12-pin connector keeps cabling compact, and the stainless steel shaft and die-cast aluminum housing give IP67 on the housing side.

Signals and wiring

On the M23 connector the signal pairs A and not-A, B and not-B, Z and not-Z, plus supply and ground, are brought out; the data sheet lists the pin numbers, the wire colours for the cable version and the matching Sin/Cos pins used by other family members. The interface is listed as programmable between TTL and HTL. Short-circuit protection on the outputs lasts for a limited time (30 s) only, so wiring must be checked before power-up.

Choosing and ordering

Match the pulse count to the controller input frequency: with 10,000 pulses per revolution, the 600 kHz output limit corresponds to about 3,600 min-1 (600,000 x 60 / 10,000) per channel, so check that this suits your top speed. Confirm before ordering: required output level (TTL or HTL), connector type and orientation, shaft diameter, and whether the operating temperature needs the flexible-cable derating.

If you need absolute position rather than incremental counts, see the SICK SRS50 motor feedback or the SSI and PROFINET AFM60 pages in the encoders category. An incremental alternative from another maker is the Autonics E40S6.

About brand

Machine builders have relied on SICK since 1946 for the sensors that tell a controller where a part, a pallet or a person is. The company, based in Waldkirch, Germany, makes photoelectric, inductive and magnetic sensors, distance sensors and safety devices. Seven Star LLC supplies SICK sensors to maintenance teams and integrators in Oman, mostly as exact replacements identified by type code and part number.

SICK sensor families on this page

Five of the SICK families listed here are described below. The W4 miniature photoelectric sensors include the WTB4-3, a proximity sensor with background suppression. IME is the standard inductive proximity line, and the IME18 is the M18 housing size. RZT7 cylinder sensors fit T-slot pneumatic cylinders and detect the piston magnet. The DT35 belongs to the Dx35 laser distance sensors for mid-range measurement. The microScan3 is a safety laser scanner that guards hazardous zones around machines and vehicles.

Where SICK sensors are used

SICK sensors are fitted on packaging and bottling lines, conveyors, palletizers, warehouse cranes and automated guided vehicles. Safety laser scanners protect robot cells and transfer cars. In process plants, the same proximity and cylinder sensors report valve and damper positions on packaged equipment.

Ordering SICK sensors: what we need

A SICK type code such as IME18-08NPSZW2K packs the whole specification into one string: housing size, sensing range, flush or non-flush mounting, output type and connection. Each variant also has a 7-digit part number, and that number is the safest identifier. Please send:

  • Type code and part number from the sensor label, or a photo of it
  • Output type (PNP or NPN, normally open or closed) and connection (cable length or M8/M12 plug)
  • For microScan3: variant (Core or Pro), interface, protective field range, plus system plug and bracket

We check the code in SICK's documentation and tell you if the manufacturer lists a successor.
