SICK Flexi Soft FX3-CPU130002 Safety Controller Main Module

Description

The SICK Flexi Soft FX3-CPU130002 is the main module of the modular Flexi Soft safety controller. It runs the safety logic for emergency stops, light curtains, door switches and other safety devices and switches the connected safety outputs, replacing a row of separate safety relays with one programmable unit.

This variant provides two EFI interfaces and Flexi Link safe networking, and it is configured in the Flexi Soft Designer software. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact SICK type code and part number from the official data sheet.

How a Flexi Soft system is built

The main module sits at the left of a DIN-rail stack and is connected to expansion modules, gateways and I/O modules through the system plug and the FLEXBUS+ backplane. The system plug has to be ordered separately, as the data sheet states, and holds the configuration. A fieldbus gateway such as a PROFINET module can be added when safety diagnostics must reach the PLC.

Safe communication and configuration

The two EFI interfaces connect compatible SICK safety devices such as safety light curtains and laser scanners with safe device communication, and Flexi Link allows safe networking between Flexi Soft controllers. The project is created on a PC with Flexi Soft Designer and transferred over the RS-232 interface on the front of the module.

Selection and what to confirm

Compared with discrete safety relays, a programmable module reduces wiring and makes changes a software task, and the integrated EFI links reduce the number of terminals used for SICK sensors. It suits packaging lines, robot cells, press brakes and conveyor lines where several guards and emergency stops are combined. Use the safety rating as a building block only; the final rating of a safety function depends on the complete chain. See the PLC and I/O category for related controllers. Please confirm before ordering: the number of safety inputs and outputs needed, the required system plug, expansion and gateway modules, EFI devices and the supply current limit of 4 A.

How the SICK FX3-CPU130002 works

The FX3-CPU130002 reads the signals of the connected safety devices, runs the safety program stored in the system plug and switches the safety outputs. If a device reports a fault or a demand, such as a pressed emergency stop, the program drives the outputs to the safe state. The module also checks itself and its connections, so a hidden fault is turned into a safe stop instead of staying unnoticed.

Where the FX3-CPU130002 is used

  • Machine safety with emergency stops
  • Light curtain and laser scanner guarding
  • Door and gate interlocks
  • Robot cells and packaging lines
  • Replacement of several safety relays

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the FX3-CPU130002

Snap the stack onto the DIN rail with the main module on the left and fit the system plug. Wire the 24 V DC supply and the safety devices. Create the project in Flexi Soft Designer, transfer it over the RS-232 port and verify every safety function before the machine runs. Keep the project file and its checksum for each machine.

About brand

Machine builders have relied on SICK since 1946 for the sensors that tell a controller where a part, a pallet or a person is. The company, based in Waldkirch, Germany, makes photoelectric, inductive and magnetic sensors, distance sensors and safety devices. Seven Star LLC supplies SICK sensors to maintenance teams and integrators in Oman, mostly as exact replacements identified by type code and part number.

SICK sensor families on this page

Five of the SICK families listed here are described below. The W4 miniature photoelectric sensors include the WTB4-3, a proximity sensor with background suppression. IME is the standard inductive proximity line, and the IME18 is the M18 housing size. RZT7 cylinder sensors fit T-slot pneumatic cylinders and detect the piston magnet. The DT35 belongs to the Dx35 laser distance sensors for mid-range measurement. The microScan3 is a safety laser scanner that guards hazardous zones around machines and vehicles.

Where SICK sensors are used

SICK sensors are fitted on packaging and bottling lines, conveyors, palletizers, warehouse cranes and automated guided vehicles. Safety laser scanners protect robot cells and transfer cars. In process plants, the same proximity and cylinder sensors report valve and damper positions on packaged equipment.

Ordering SICK sensors: what we need

A SICK type code such as IME18-08NPSZW2K packs the whole specification into one string: housing size, sensing range, flush or non-flush mounting, output type and connection. Each variant also has a 7-digit part number, and that number is the safest identifier. Please send:

  • Type code and part number from the sensor label, or a photo of it
  • Output type (PNP or NPN, normally open or closed) and connection (cable length or M8/M12 plug)
  • For microScan3: variant (Core or Pro), interface, protective field range, plus system plug and bracket

We check the code in SICK's documentation and tell you if the manufacturer lists a successor.
