Rittal TS 8 Free-Standing Enclosure System
Overview
The Rittal TS 8 is Rittal’s modular free-standing enclosure system for switchgear, motor control centres, PLC panels and process control cabinets. It is built on a patented 16-fold tubular frame that Rittal says can carry loads of up to 1,500 lb on the mounting panel, with the sales sheet noting that the frame itself is designed to accommodate loads up to 3,200 lb. Around that frame the system offers single and double door versions, marshalling and electronic enclosures, floor-mount and disconnect configurations and bayed arrangements, so one design vocabulary covers everything from a single instrument cabinet to a long line of motor control sections.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Rittal TS 8 to power stations, water utilities, oil and gas facilities and industrial contractors in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. Our team in Muscat helps panel builders and maintenance planners match the size, finish and protection rating to the site, and quotes the enclosure together with compatible accessories and climate control equipment.
Frame and Construction of the Rittal TS 8
The frame of the Rittal TS 8 is a tubular steel section with a 25 mm hole pattern, which lets components and accessories be mounted in three directions: by height, width and depth. The mounting panel is zinc-plated, depth-adjustable and slides in and out, and the sales sheet states that the full-size panel provides up to 15 percent more interior mounting space than unibody NEMA-style enclosures. The door is strengthened by an attached frame that carries the same pitch pattern for ducts, harnesses and wiring plan pockets.
In the standard single and double door version the frame, roof, rear wall and gland plates are 16 gauge (1.5 mm) sheet steel, the doors are 14 gauge (2.0 mm) and the mounting panel is 11 gauge (3.0 mm). The frame is dipcoat-primed and the door, roof and rear wall are powder-coated in textured RAL 7035 light grey on the outside. Rittal states protection of cULus Type 12, equivalent to IP 55 to EN 60529, and a seamless foamed-in-place gasket seals against outside contaminants. A gasketed roof is secured with removable eyebolts that screw directly into the frame.
Configurations of the Rittal TS 8
The Rittal TS 8 specification guide describes five design families: non-disconnect, disconnect, NEMA 3R, NEMA 4 and floor-mount. Disconnect versions include a handle interlocking kit, floor-mount versions use a 12 inch bolt-on leg kit and solid floor panel, and the Type 4 single-door version reaches IP 66. Marshalling versions omit the tubular door frame, electronic versions provide 19 inch rail sections, and a modular front design uses partial doors. Stainless steel is available in 304 and 316L, with a Type 4X, IP 66 single door version in 304 and a Type 12, IP 55 version in 304 or 316L.
The guide lists heights between 1,200 and 2,200 mm and widths between 400 and 1,800 mm in its single and double door tables. Examples include article 8615.500 at 1,200 x 600 x 500 mm (H x W x D) and article 8815.500 at 1,200 x 800 x 500 mm, with matching sidewalls, mounting panels and plinths listed against each size.
Key Features of the Rittal TS 8
These features, taken from the Rittal literature, define the Rittal TS 8 in service.
- A 16-fold tubular frame with a modular design allows efficient system updates and flexible baying.
- The 25 mm hole pattern allows mounting by height, width and depth for maximum use of the interior space.
- Doors can hold up to 200 lb and can be removed in as few as 30 seconds, which helps during panel assembly and later retrofits.
- Standard side and rear wall panels provide mid-level EMC shielding and almost instant grounding without straps.
- A seamless foamed-in-place gasket seals the enclosure against dust and moisture.
- Exterior panels are easily removed to reach interior components during wiring and inspection.
- The enclosure can be configured to a range of protection ratings, from IP 55 to IP 66, in painted or stainless steel.
- A wide selection of Rittal accessories, including rails, gland plates, plinths and baying hardware, is compatible with the system.
Industrial Applications
A free-standing enclosure of this class is the standard housing for low-voltage switchgear, motor starters, drive cabinets, PLC and DCS marshalling, and control rooms in power and process plants. In Oman the Rittal TS 8 fits power and desalination stations on the Batinah coast, oil and gas gathering and processing facilities, water transmission pump stations, and manufacturing plants in the Sohar, Salalah and Rusayl industrial zones where dust, humidity and heat load matter.
Because the system is modular, a contractor can start with a single TS 8 cabinet and add bayed sections as a plant expands. Seven Star LLC supplies the Rittal TS 8 with engineering support in Muscat and can quote climate control, rails and accessories at the same time.
