Raytek Raynger 3i Plus High-Temperature IR Thermometer

Description

A rugged handheld infrared thermometer for furnaces and hot process surfaces

The Raytek Raynger 3i Plus is a handheld, gun-style infrared thermometer for high-temperature work: foundries, steel and metal refining, ceramics, heat treatment, chemical and petrochemical furnaces and power plant boilers. It is built for readings taken from a safe distance, with a 250:1 distance-to-spot ratio, dual laser aiming and an optional scope that remains usable when a red-hot target hides the laser dot.

Two models cover the range. The 3i-1M works at 1.0 um spectral response for 700 to 3000 degC, and the 3i-2M works at 1.6 um for 400 to 2000 degC. As a rule, the shorter wavelength suits the hottest targets, while the 2M reaches lower into the process range.

Safety and aiming features that matter at high temperature

The Red Nose is a heat-resistant plastic nose with a temperature sensor inside. If it reaches a critical temperature the LCD alarms, which helps the operator stay clear of radiant heat and protects the instrument. Where the target is small, the dual laser marks the measured spot with two points. Where the target glows so brightly that a laser dot disappears, the scope models use a Red Dot in the sight line to show the measured area.

The locking trigger, tripod mounting and reflected energy compensation make the thermometer practical for repeat surveys. Readings can be stored and moved to a PC through USB or, on Bluetooth versions, to a phone running the DataTemp mobile app.

Choosing between the 1M and 2M

Pick the 3i-1M for molten metal, glowing billets and furnace walls above 700 degC. Pick the 3i-2M if the same instrument must also read cooler hot work between 400 and 700 degC, for example soaking furnaces or forged parts leaving the heat. Emissivity has to be set for the surface, and it changes with oxide, scale and surface finish, so confirm the value you will use for your material. Applications are listed by the manufacturer across iron, steel, metal refining, foundry operations, ceramics, semiconductors, chemical and petrochemical furnaces. For fixed, continuous measurement on the same duty, see the Raytek Compact CI infrared pyrometer, or browse portable test and measurement instruments.

Confirm before ordering: the model (1M or 2M), laser or scope sighting, whether Bluetooth is needed, and the target temperature, size and distance so the 250:1 spot size suits the job.

About brand

Raytek is the name on a long line of non-contact infrared temperature sensors, today presented by the manufacturer under Fluke Process Instruments. Seven Star LLC lists the Raytek Compact CI infrared spot pyrometer and supplies Raytek fixed-mount pyrometers to manufacturing and process plants in Oman. The Compact CI is a small sensor meant to be built into machines and production lines.

Raytek pyrometer families

The manufacturer's current range keeps the Raytek name on the Compact CI and CM sensors, the Compact MI3 with its multi-sensor design, the Marathon MM with high-resolution optics, and the handheld Raynger 3i Plus. The Compact CI and CM are described as rugged, easy to install units for OEM and end-user applications. The Thermalert 4.0 and Endurance series cover wider spectral and temperature needs.

Ordering Raytek sensors: what we need

Send the full model code from the sensor label, since it fixes the temperature range, the output type and the cable length. For a new measuring point, give the target material and surface, the temperature span, the distance and target size, and the ambient temperature at the sensor. Mention accessories such as air purge collars or mounting brackets. GCC inquiries are welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature range does the Raynger 3i Plus cover?
The 3i-1M covers 700 to 3000 degC and the 3i-2M covers 400 to 2000 degC.
What is the distance-to-spot ratio?
250:1, so a target 5 m away is measured over a spot about 20 mm across.
How can I aim at a red-hot target?
Use a scope model; its Red Dot sighting remains visible when the laser dot cannot be seen.
Can readings be stored?
Yes, up to 4,900 readings with location, date and time, transferable by USB or Bluetooth versions to a PC or the mobile app.
How long does the battery last?
About 24 hours on a single-cell Li-ion battery, or it can run from USB 2.0.
