SciAps LIBS analyzers: the Z-900 series

A SciAps LIBS analyzer fires a pulsed laser at the sample to create a small plasma, and an on-board spectrometer reads the light it emits. Which elements the unit can report depends on the spectrometer range fitted. The Z-900 series is built in three levels, Z-901, Z-902 and Z-903, with variants such as the Z-901 CSi, Z-902 Carbon and Z-903 Carbon. The manufacturer gives the Z-901 a 200 to 420 nm range and the listed Z-903 the widest one, 190 to 950 nm, which adds elements such as hydrogen, fluorine, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur.

Ordering a SciAps analyzer: what we need

Tell us the materials you test (carbon steel, stainless, aluminum, nickel alloys, ores) and the elements you must report, since that decides between the Z-901, Z-902 and Z-903 and the calibrations loaded. State whether the work is PMI on site, scrap sorting or geochemistry. For GCC inspection companies, list any client specification the results must satisfy.

FAQ

Questions about SciAps

Common questions about SciAps equipment, part numbers and supply to Oman and the GCC.

01What is the difference between the SciAps Z-901, Z-902 and Z-903?
They are the three levels of the Z-900 handheld LIBS series and differ in spectrometer range: SciAps gives 200 to 420 nm for the Z-901 and 190 to 950 nm for the Z-903, with the Z-902 between them. Carbon versions exist for steel and stainless work. Tell us the elements and alloys you need and we check the right model in the manufacturer's documentation.
02When should I choose a LIBS analyzer and when XRF?
SciAps makes both. LIBS uses a laser and can measure light elements that handheld XRF cannot reach well, while XRF is widely used for general alloy identification without marking the surface. The right choice depends on the elements and the materials in your scope, so send that list.
03I have an older SciAps Z-series analyzer. What should I send?
Send the model, for example Z-300, and the serial number from the label, plus a list of the calibrations loaded on it. We check the current model that covers the same elements in the manufacturer's documentation and quote that, or the accessories for your existing unit.
04What is the difference between SciAps XRF and LIBS analysers?
SciAps X-series analysers use X-ray fluorescence, while Z-series analysers use laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, which can also measure carbon in steels. SciAps is based in Woburn, Massachusetts.
05Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of SciAps?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent industrial supplier based in Muscat. We source SciAps analyzers through commercial channels, check the model or order code against the manufacturer's documentation before quoting, and provide the manufacturer's datasheet and the certificates the manufacturer issues with the order on request.
