FLIR T540 Professional Thermal Imaging Camera
Description
A 464 x 348 thermal camera with laser-assisted autofocus for plant surveys
The FLIR T540 is a handheld professional thermal imaging camera for electrical, mechanical and process inspections. It gives 464 x 348 infrared pixels (161,472 measurement points), or 645,888 effective pixels with UltraMax processing, on a 4 inch touchscreen, and an optical block that rotates 180 degrees so overhead and awkward targets can be viewed without bending the wrist.
Continuous laser-assisted autofocus is the headline feature for fast work, because a sharp image is a precondition for a correct temperature reading on small targets such as connections, fuse holders and bearing housings. The camera also offers 1-Touch Level/Span contrast, Inspection Route mode for repeatable survey paths and an optional Macro mode for close-up work.

Where the T540 fits in a thermography programme
The T540 sits above the E-series in resolution and flexibility and is intended for inspectors who repeat the same routes. Inspection Route runs plans created in FLIR Thermal Studio Pro, so the camera guides the user from asset to asset and stores images in a logical order. Voice annotation, GPS tagging and METERLiNK data from compatible FLIR meters can be added to images. The FlexView lens lets the operator switch between a wide and a telephoto view without changing optics, which helps on switchgear and pipe racks where distance and access vary.
Typical uses are electrical panel scans, motor and bearing condition monitoring, steam trap and insulation checks and R&D thermal testing. Temperature measurement still depends on correct emissivity, reflected temperature and distance settings.
Choosing the lens and what to confirm before ordering
Pick the 24 degree lens as the all-round choice, the 14 degree lens for small or distant targets and the 42 or 80 degree lens for tight spaces and large scenes. Confirm the lens set or FlexView option, whether the radio (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) is allowed at the site, the temperature range option and which software you will use for reporting. The manufacturer also states the product is subject to United States export regulations. See the larger FLIR E96 thermal camera or browse portable test and measurement instruments.
Documents and quotation
The attached FLIR T500-Series datasheet (revised 09/23/24 in the footer) covers the T530, T540 and T560, with this model in the middle column. The page lists the T540 as available in single-lens, FlexView and multi-lens variants, so state the exact configuration required.

About brand
A hot cable lug, a dry bearing or a blocked heat exchanger tube shows up in infrared long before it fails, and FLIR cameras are among the most common tools for finding such faults. The company was founded in 1978, is based in Wilsonville, USA, and concentrates on thermal imaging cameras and sensors. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies FLIR thermal cameras and lenses for inspection teams in Oman and the GCC.
FLIR E96 and the Exx-Series
Among the cameras listed, the FLIR E96 is the 640 x 480 pixel camera of the handheld Exx-Series. FLIR publishes three object temperature ranges for it: -20 to 120 C, 0 to 650 C and 300 to 1500 C, with a stated accuracy of plus or minus 2 C or 2 percent of reading. The camera takes interchangeable lenses of 14, 24, 42 and 80 degrees and supports MSX and UltraMax image enhancement.
Ordering a FLIR thermal camera: what we need
State the model and the lens or lenses required, because the same body is sold in several lens kits. Tell us the typical target and distance, for example switchgear at two meters or furnace walls at fifteen, so the field of view can be checked. Mention the highest temperature you need to measure, and any accessories such as spare batteries or a second lens.
