Optrel clearmaxx Lightweight Grinding Helmet
Description
An extra light grinding helmet with a large clear visor
The Optrel clearmaxx (part number 1100.000) is a face protection helmet for grinding and similar dusty work. Without a PAPR it weighs 334 g (500 g in the PAPR version), has a polyamide shell, and a large clear polycarbonate visor for an unrestricted view of the workplace. A comfort headband carries the load, and the basic variant has no industrial safety helmet.
Optrel lists applications including grinding, construction, landfills, the automotive and metal industries, woodworking, agriculture, and the chemical and food industries. The helmet is built to be combined with a powered or supplied-air system, so one helmet shell can serve as plain face protection or as part of a respiratory system.

Using it with powered or supplied air
The manual describes the PAPR version, with an air hose holder clicked onto the headgear, a mechanical face seal and adjustable air distribution. For breathing protection the lowest class of all components governs the overall rating. The manual warns that a switched-off blower no longer protects the user and can allow carbon dioxide to build up, that the seal strip must sit flush with the skin, and that hair or a beard protruding into the seal may reduce the protection factor.
The standard version is face protection against flying particles at room temperature and gives no respiratory protection by itself. Scratched visors should be replaced, and front cover lenses and tear-off foils are consumables.
Ordering and checks before purchase
Optrel also lists ready-to-grind packages, 4600.110 with the Swiss Air blower system and 4600.115 with industrial safety helmet and Swiss Air, as separate product variants. For a welding helmet instead of a grinding visor see welding helmets and face protection. For respiratory systems see respiratory protection.
Confirm the variant (with or without safety helmet), the need for PAPR and the availability before ordering, because the manufacturer shop currently shows it as unavailable. A quotation needs the part number 1100.000, quantity and delivery location.

About brand
Optrel is a Swiss maker of auto-darkening welding helmets and respiratory protection, founded in 1986 in Wattwil, canton of St. Gallen. Its founders built welding filters that darken automatically using liquid crystal technology. After some years as part of the French safety group Bacou, Optrel became independent again in 2010, when Marco and René Koch, sons of one of the founders, bought it back.
Seven Star LLC lists the Optrel crystal2.0, e684, panoramaxx clt and panoramaxx 2.5 helmets and supplies them, with their spare lenses and headgear, to fabricators and contractors in Oman and the GCC.

Optrel welding helmets listed here
The crystal2.0 and the panoramaxx clt use Optrel's Crystal Lens Technology, which gives a very light, clear view at shade level 2.0 before the arc strikes. The panoramaxx helmets have a nose cut-out that brings the lens closer to the eyes and widens the field of view; the panoramaxx 2.5 has a light state of shade level 2.5. The e684 adjusts its shade level automatically to the arc. For fume protection Optrel pairs helmets with its e3000X and swiss air respiratory systems.
Where Optrel helmets are used
Fabrication shops, pipe spools, tank and structural work and site maintenance, on TIG, MIG/MAG and stick welding.
