Optrel panoramaxx clt Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet
Overview
The Optrel panoramaxx clt is Optrel’s panoramic welding helmet with Crystal Lens Technology (CLT), offered in black (part no. 1010.200) and silver (part no. 1010.201). Compared with conventional auto-darkening helmets, its standout specification is the light state: the filter rests at shade 2.0, which Optrel pairs with a colour-realistic panoramic view so that welders can read drawings, align fit-ups and move around the bay without lifting the helmet. Once the arc ignites, the lens darkens automatically between shade 4 and 12 using ShadeTronic, or to a fixed manual shade between 7 and 12.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Optrel panoramaxx clt across Oman and the GCC, including helmets, PAPR versions where requested, and replacement cover lenses, with engineering and logistics support from our base in Muscat. Safety managers in the region often specify a clearer helmet to cut the number of unprotected moments when a welder raises a dark shield to check work.
Filter Technology in the Optrel panoramaxx clt
Auto-darkening filters, in general terms, are liquid crystal shutters: arc light reaching optical sensors triggers a control voltage, and the crystal layers turn dark almost instantly while permanent filters block ultraviolet and infrared radiation in every state. In the Optrel panoramaxx clt, five sensors detect the arc and the cassette switches from light to dark in 90 microseconds at 23 degrees C, falling to 70 microseconds at 55 degrees C. The technical data confirms maximum UV and IR protection at any shade setting.
Three control functions make day-to-day use easier. ShadeTronic adapts the dark shade to arc brightness automatically, so the welder is not constantly turning a knob when amperage changes. FadeTronic sets how long the filter stays dark after the arc stops, from 0.1 s up to 2.0 s, to shield the eyes from the afterglow of the pool. Sensitivity can be adjusted continuously, including a Super High range that helps the sensors catch weak low-amp TIG arcs, and a grinding mode holds the lens in its light state.
Construction and Comfort
The 90 x 110 x 9.5 mm cassette gives a 50 x 100 mm main viewing field and is shielded by front and inner cover lenses. The shell is PA6.6, stable up to 220 degrees C, while the front cover lens is stable up to 137 degrees C. The Optrel panoramaxx clt comes with the optrel IsoFit headgear. Weight is 610 g for the silver version and 600 g for black, rising to 780 g and 770 g respectively with PAPR.
A 280 mAh lithium-polymer battery with a battery management system powers the electronics. It is recharged through a Micro USB cable and supported by solar cells, switches on automatically and goes to sleep when unused, and it is rated for 300 to 500 charging cycles. The helmet is specified for operation from minus 10 to plus 55 degrees C and storage from minus 20 to plus 70 degrees C.
Key Features
Highlights of the Optrel panoramaxx clt from the manufacturer technical data include:
- Crystal Lens Technology with a shade 2.0 light state and colour-realistic panoramic view.
- Dark shade 4 to 12 in ShadeTronic automatic mode, or 7 to 12 set manually.
- Five arc sensors, 90 microsecond switching at room temperature.
- FadeTronic opening delay adjustable from 0.1 s to 2.0 s.
- Continuously variable sensitivity with Super High range and a grinding mode.
- EN 379 rating of optical class 1, scattered light 1, homogeneity 1 and angular dependence 2.
- Choice of black or silver PA6.6 shell, both with optrel IsoFit headgear.
- PAPR version listed to EN 12941 TH3 and supplied air version to EN 14594 3B.
PAPR and Supplied Air Considerations
Welding fume is a recognised occupational health hazard, and in enclosed spaces such as vessel interiors, ship hulls and tank shells, many employers move from simple helmets to respiratory protection. The PAPR configuration of the Optrel panoramaxx clt combines the welding shield with a powered air purifying respirator; the technical data lists this version to EN 12941 class TH3, and a supplied air version to EN 14594 class 3B for connection to a compressed breathing air line. As a general observation, a steady stream of filtered air across the face also improves comfort in hot workshops, which is a practical benefit during the Omani summer. Selection of the right respiratory class should always follow the site risk assessment and the exposure data for the materials being welded, such as stainless steel or coated carbon steel.
For day-to-day care, the front cover lens should be replaced as soon as spatter or scratches reduce clarity, since the clear shade 2.0 view of the Optrel panoramaxx clt is only as good as its outer lens. Keeping a stock of front and inner lenses on site avoids downtime.
Where the Helmet Is Used
The technical data lists all electric arc welding processes for the Optrel panoramaxx clt: stick welding (SMAW), MIG/MAG (GMAW) and high melting rate GMAW, flux-cored wire, TIG (GTAW), plasma and micro plasma welding, plasma cutting, and grinding in grind mode. Oxy-gas and laser welding are prohibited. The datasheet also states that it meets the draft ISO 16321 requirements for low-amp TIG. That makes it a strong option for stainless and alloy pipe welders on refinery and petrochemical projects in Sohar and Duqm, where low-amp TIG root runs are frequent and accurate joint viewing matters.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Optrel panoramaxx clt to fabricators, EPC contractors and maintenance crews in Muscat, Salalah and across the GCC. Teams equipping a bay often order helmets alongside power sources such as the Lincoln Electric Power Wave S500 and the ESAB Rebel EMP 285ic; the full range of shields is grouped in our welding helmets and face protection section.
