Optrel e3000X PAPR Powered Air Respirator Blower Unit

Description

Battery-powered blower that turns a welding helmet into a respirator

The Optrel e3000X is a powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) blower unit that supplies filtered air to a compatible Optrel welding or grinding helmet. It is worn on a belt, draws air through a TH3P particle filter and delivers it through an air hose to the helmet, so welders and grinders breathe filtered air rather than relying on a passive mask. Used correctly, the system protects against dust and particles in the breathing air; the e3000X does not protect against gases unless the optional ABE1 gas filter is fitted, as listed in the manual.

The blower has three selectable air-flow levels of at least 170, 210 and 240 L/min, an electronic flow control and audible and visual alarms for low battery, clogged or missing filter and low air flow. According to the user manual, the unit is certified TH3P to EN 12941 and P3 to AS/NZS 1716.

Compatible helmets and protection class

The manual gives the nominal protection factor class by helmet: TH3 without hard hat and TH2 with hard hat for the panoramaxx series (clt, 2.5, quattro), the sphere series (vegaview 2.5, crystal2.0, e684, e600) and the liteflip series (autopilot, passive). The clearmaxx face shield is classed TH3 without and TH1 with hard hat, and the softhood is TH3.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the helmet series, whether a gas filter is needed (it shortens battery time), spare batteries and the charger, and whether work will be in a potentially explosive area, because the manual forbids charging or disconnecting the battery in hazardous areas. A PAPR does not replace a fit-for-purpose risk assessment, and the manual states it must not be used where oxygen is below the stated limit or where concentrations reach the lower explosive level. Compatible helmets include the Optrel sphereX clt. Related protective equipment is listed under Respiratory Protection.

About brand

Welders usually know Optrel by the view through the lens. The Swiss company, founded in 1986 and based in Wattwil, makes auto-darkening welding helmets, grinding helmets and powered air respirators. Seven Star LLC lists the Optrel crystal2.0, e684, panoramaxx clt and panoramaxx 2.5 helmets and supplies them, with their spare lenses and headgear, to fabricators and contractors in Oman and the GCC.

Optrel welding helmets listed here

The crystal2.0 and the panoramaxx clt use Optrel's Crystal Lens Technology, which gives a very light, clear view at shade level 2.0 before the arc strikes. The panoramaxx helmets have a nose cut-out that brings the lens closer to the eyes and widens the field of view; the panoramaxx 2.5 has a light state of shade level 2.5. The e684 adjusts its shade level automatically to the arc. For fume protection Optrel pairs helmets with its e3000X and swiss air respiratory systems.

Where Optrel helmets are used

Fabrication shops, pipe spools, tank and structural work and site maintenance, on TIG, MIG/MAG and stick welding.

Ordering Optrel helmets and spares: what we need

State the helmet model and color, with or without respirator connection, and any hard hat adapter. For spares, give the model and say front cover lens, inside cover lens, sweatband or headgear.
