Optrel vegaview2.5 Automatic Welding Helmet
Description
A bright-view automatic welding helmet for daily shop and site work
The Optrel vegaview2.5 (part number 1006.600) is an automatic darkening welding helmet from the Swiss manufacturer Optrel. Its main feature is the extra bright light state of shade 2.5, which gives a clearer view of the workpiece, the surroundings and the tools between welds than a traditional shade 3 or 4 filter. The filter is described as true colour, so weld pool and base metal keep a natural appearance.
The helmet has a comfort headband that spreads the weight over the head and protects the neck, and a patented eccentric mechanism for positioning the helmet on the head. It weighs 489 g. The shade in use is selected infinitely from 8 to 12, and a grinding mode lets the same helmet be used for finishing work without lifting the filter.

Processes and limits of use
Optrel lists the vegaview2.5 for every electric arc process: stick (SMAW), MIG and MAG, high melting rate GMAW, flux cored wire, TIG, plasma arc welding, plasma cutting and oxy-gas welding. The lens is reflection free on both the front and inner cover lenses and is suitable for overhead welding. It is prohibited for laser welding.
Delay and sensitivity are set to suit the job. A long delay helps after high-amp welding, when the pool stays bright, while a short delay saves time on tack welding. The sensor slider reduces the detection angle where nearby arcs or reflected light can trigger the filter. The scope of delivery covers the helmet, instruction manual, storage bag, batteries, warranty card and one front cover lens.
Ordering and quotation
Compare the vegaview2.5 with other models in welding helmets and face protection. If the same helmet must be combined with powered or supplied air, see respiratory protection and the Optrel PAPR and supplied-air options. The 2.5 shade version has a fixed 8 to 12 dark range, so choose a helmet with a wider range if you weld at low amperage or at very high shades.
The attached data sheet is dated 2015, and the manufacturer shop shows the item as currently not available, so confirm the current revision, battery type and availability before ordering. For a quotation, give the part number 1006.600, quantity, delivery location and whether you need spare cover lenses.

About brand
Optrel is a Swiss maker of auto-darkening welding helmets and respiratory protection, founded in 1986 in Wattwil, canton of St. Gallen. Its founders built welding filters that darken automatically using liquid crystal technology. After some years as part of the French safety group Bacou, Optrel became independent again in 2010, when Marco and René Koch, sons of one of the founders, bought it back.
Seven Star LLC lists the Optrel crystal2.0, e684, panoramaxx clt and panoramaxx 2.5 helmets and supplies them, with their spare lenses and headgear, to fabricators and contractors in Oman and the GCC.
Optrel company profile

| Product families | Auto-darkening welding helmets (crystal, panoramaxx, weldcap), grinding helmets, powered air-purifying respirators, spare lenses and accessories |
Milestones
- 1986: Optrel is founded in Wattwil and launches its opto-electronic welding masks.
- Late 1990s: Optrel is bought by the French protective-equipment group Bacou.
- 2010: Marco and René Koch buy the company back and Optrel becomes independent again.
Optrel welding helmets listed here
The crystal2.0 and the panoramaxx clt use Optrel's Crystal Lens Technology, which gives a very light, clear view at shade level 2.0 before the arc strikes. The panoramaxx helmets have a nose cut-out that brings the lens closer to the eyes and widens the field of view; the panoramaxx 2.5 has a light state of shade level 2.5. The e684 adjusts its shade level automatically to the arc. For fume protection Optrel pairs helmets with its e3000X and swiss air respiratory systems.
Where Optrel helmets are used
Fabrication shops, pipe spools, tank and structural work and site maintenance, on TIG, MIG/MAG and stick welding.
