Optrel neo p550 Lightweight Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet

Description

A light everyday helmet with a color-fast view

The Optrel neo p550 is a lightweight auto-darkening welding helmet from the Y series of Optrel AG, Switzerland. The shell weighs 495 g, the shade cartridge has a 50 x 100 mm field of view, and a patented eccentric mechanism lets the welder set the helmet position on the head precisely. Interchangeable side panels allow the helmet to be customized, and the manufacturer describes the view as color-fast and true to color.

The p550 has a bright-mode shade of 4 and a dark range of 9 to 13, so it suits the usual stick, MIG/MAG, flux-cored and TIG work at moderate to high current. Optrel also lists plasma welding, microplasma welding and plasma cutting, and states that the helmet is not suitable for laser welding.

The manual notes that the helmet meets Optrel internal technical specifications that deviate from EN 379 and EN 175 in some respects, so check the full wording of the manual if your site specification names those standards.

Fit and use

The headband adjusts in length and depth, and the manual recommends keeping the sensors clean and unobscured because a covered sensor can leave the filter light during welding. The opening delay is set to suit the process: a longer delay helps at high current, where the weld pool stays bright. Batteries are replaced in the cartridge, while the solar cells support them during welding.

Choose the neo p550 as a general fabrication helmet when low weight matters and respiratory protection is not integrated. If the work needs fume protection or a lighter resting state, look at the Optrel crystal2.0 or the welding helmets and face protection category.

About brand

Welders usually know Optrel by the view through the lens. The Swiss company, founded in 1986 and based in Wattwil, makes auto-darkening welding helmets, grinding helmets and powered air respirators. Seven Star LLC lists the Optrel crystal2.0, e684, panoramaxx clt and panoramaxx 2.5 helmets and supplies them, with their spare lenses and headgear, to fabricators and contractors in Oman and the GCC.

Optrel welding helmets listed here

The crystal2.0 and the panoramaxx clt use Optrel's Crystal Lens Technology, which gives a very light, clear view at shade level 2.0 before the arc strikes. The panoramaxx helmets have a nose cut-out that brings the lens closer to the eyes and widens the field of view; the panoramaxx 2.5 has a light state of shade level 2.5. The e684 adjusts its shade level automatically to the arc. For fume protection Optrel pairs helmets with its e3000X and swiss air respiratory systems.

Where Optrel helmets are used

Fabrication shops, pipe spools, tank and structural work and site maintenance, on TIG, MIG/MAG and stick welding.

Ordering Optrel helmets and spares: what we need

State the helmet model and color, with or without respirator connection, and any hard hat adapter. For spares, give the model and say front cover lens, inside cover lens, sweatband or headgear.
