3M Speedglas G5-01 Heavy-Duty Flip-Up Welding Helmet

Description

A heavy-duty flip-up welding helmet built around airflow

The 3M Speedglas G5-01 is a heavy-duty flip-up welding helmet from 3M Personal Safety, made in a robust PPA shell with a polycarbonate visor plate. It is designed for most arc welding processes: stick (MMA), MIG/MAG, TIG and low-amp TIG, as well as cutting and grinding. The flip-up outer shield lets the welder switch to grinding without taking the helmet off, and an adjustable airflow distribution system sends air to the face, to the visor, or between the two.

3M lists an attachment system for additional protective accessories, a TAP function suitable for cutting at shade 5, and an optional task light powered by the 3M Adflo battery. The datasheet describes the helmet itself, so the welding filter and any powered air unit are selected separately.

Spare parts and accessories

The datasheet lists replaceable parts under 3M part numbers, including the inner shield with air duct and airflow controls (61 11 95), the flip-up outer shield with hinge and pivot ring (61 01 95), visor plates in packs of 5 (61 30 00), the front cover (61 05 00), the face seal (61 40 00), the headband with assembly parts (61 32 00), sweatbands in towelling, fleece and leather, neck protection in rigid, fabric and leather versions, head covers, the shroud and extended protection kit, a scrape guard, a task light and a carry bag.

Limits of use to check before ordering

3M states that the helmet is not designed for overhead welding or cutting where there is a risk of burns from falling molten metal, should be used only with original 3M spare parts and accessories, and must not be used for protection against unknown contaminants, in oxygen-deficient atmospheres, or where concentrations are immediately dangerous to life or health. Users must be clean-shaven where a face seal contacts the skin, and winds above 2 m/s or very high work rates can reduce protection. Respiratory suitability for a particular site is a safety-officer decision that should be made from the full 3M user instructions.

About brand

Few names turn up on as many maintenance requisitions as 3M: the tape in the electrician's pouch, the respirator at the paint booth, the earmuffs at the compressor house. Seven Star LLC supplies 3M industrial and safety products to buyers in Oman, and the items listed here include Peltor hearing protection, 6000 series reusable respirators, Speedglas welding helmets, Scotch electrical tape and Liqui-Cel membrane contactors.

3M product lines listed here

The listing is led by five separate 3M lines, each with its own part numbering. Peltor X Series earmuffs are graded by attenuation, and the X5A is the over-the-head model with an NRR of 31 dB. The 6000 series half facepiece comes in three sizes (6100 small, 6200 medium, 6300 large) and takes 3M bayonet cartridges and filters, which are ordered separately. Speedglas 9100 is the auto-darkening welding helmet family, supplied with different filter sizes and with or without side windows. Scotch Super 33+ is the vinyl electrical tape most specifications call for by name. Liqui-Cel membrane contactors, such as the EXF-4x13, add or remove dissolved gases in liquid streams. Other listed items include HFR and Betapure filter cartridges, the 8210 N95 particulate respirator, the QT-III cold shrink termination kit and Scotch 23 and 130C splicing tapes.

Where 3M products are used

Hearing, respiratory and welding protection from 3M is specified by HSE departments in refineries, fabrication yards, power plants and construction sites across the GCC. Super 33+ tape is used for primary insulation and jacketing on low-voltage splices and for phase marking in panels. Liqui-Cel contactors sit in water treatment and process skids where oxygen or carbon dioxide has to be stripped from water, for example ahead of boilers or in ultrapure water loops.

Ordering 3M items: what we need

A 3M request is simple to process when the product number is complete. Please send:

  • The 3M product number or model (for example X5A, 6200, Super 33+) and the quantity per pack or case
  • For respirators: facepiece size and the cartridge or filter type for the contaminant
  • For Speedglas: filter version, side windows or not, and any powered air unit it must fit
  • For Liqui-Cel: full contactor code, membrane type, housing material and connections

We check the code against 3M documentation and provide the manufacturer's datasheet on request.
