Hilti PS 300 Ferroscan Rebar Detector

The Hilti PS 300 Ferroscan is a handheld concrete detector for rebar localisation, depth measurement and size estimation in structural analysis. It detects reinforcing bars to a depth of 200 mm, shows the rebar layout in top and sectional views on an integrated touch display, and records scans for documentation.

Rebar mapping and concrete cover checks for structural work

Hilti lists verification and analysis of first-layer rebar, checking concrete cover over large areas in structural repair, building acceptance inspections and quality control, and generation of structural assessment reports with statistics and 2D and 3D views. The product page notes a smart algorithm for accurate rebar depth measurement and a wide sensor area for quick scans over large areas. The scanner is for reinforcing bars in concrete and other non-ferritic construction materials, and Hilti states that performance and accuracy can be significantly affected by site conditions.

Scanning functions

The operating instructions describe a Quickscan function that locates reinforcing bars in real time, with bars perpendicular to the scan direction shown in a top view and cross-sectional view, and a Quickscan Rec. function for extended scan lengths. A calibration step is required, holding the scanner in the air away from electromagnetic signals. The manual states that permission must be obtained before using the scanner at hospitals, nuclear power plants, or near airports and cellular relay stations, and that all four wheels must stay in contact with the surface, with no scanning over steps or edges.
