Elcometer 130 Salt Contamination Meter

Description

A soluble salt meter that tests steel surfaces before coating

The Elcometer 130 is a handheld salt contamination meter that measures soluble salts on a surface by testing the conductivity of a sample taken with a test paper. Elcometer states it is more than 4 times faster than Bresle equivalent test methods, with a sample time of 2 minutes.

Soluble salts under a paint system cause blistering and early coating failure, so salt testing is a normal hold point after blasting and before painting on steel structures, tanks, pipelines and vessels in coastal and offshore environments. The gauge also works as a conductivity meter in Model T.

How the test works and where it fits

In use, a wetted test paper is held against the surface with a magnetic disc and then placed on the gauge sensor, and the conductivity of the extracted salts is shown as a surface density in ug/cm2. The pressure plate gives uniform contact on flat or convex surfaces, and the gold-plated contacts and automatic temperature compensation keep readings repeatable. A calibration offset allows non-pure water up to 2 ug/cm2, and calibration verification tiles are available as an accessory.

The Model T adds statistics, limits with audible and visual pass or fail warnings, trend and batch graphs and ElcoMaster software reporting. Model S covers the core 0 to 25 ug/cm2 measurement with USB output.

Ordering notes and what to confirm

Choose between Model S and Model T, and between the standard and the certified (SC or TC) version if your inspection plan needs a calibration certificate. Consumables are separate: test papers (T13024094 box of 100), distilled water, gloves, bags, sensor wipes and magnetic discs have their own part numbers in the datasheet. Confirm the allowable salt limit with your coating specification, since limits are set by the project and not by the gauge. See the Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauge for dry film thickness checks, or browse portable test and measurement instruments.

About brand

Coating inspectors carry Elcometer gauges on painting and blasting jobs to record that a protective coating has been applied to specification. The company was founded in 1947 in Manchester, United Kingdom, and works in coating inspection and thickness gauges. Seven Star LLC lists the Elcometer 456 separate coating thickness gauge and supplies Elcometer instruments and probes to inspection teams in Oman on inquiry.

Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauges

The Elcometer 456 measures dry film thickness. The separate version in our listing takes plug-in probes on a cable, so one gauge body can work with different probes. Probe choice follows the substrate: ferrous probes for coatings on steel, non-ferrous probes for coatings on metals such as aluminum, and dual probes for both. Probe scale and shape are chosen to suit the coating thickness and the access to the surface.

Ordering Elcometer gauges and probes: what we need

Send the gauge model letter and part number from the label, the substrate, the expected coating thickness range, the probe type and scale, and any accessories such as reference foils. If a test certificate from the manufacturer is required, say so in the request. Fabrication yards across the GCC usually name the inspection standard as well.
