DeFelsko PosiTest HHD High Voltage Holiday Detector

Description

High-voltage holiday detection for coatings, linings and membranes

The DeFelsko PosiTest HHD is a high-voltage holiday detector that finds holidays, porosity, pinholes, leaks and other discontinuities in coatings, linings and membranes. The HHD is a stick-type instrument with pulsed DC output, and the companion PosiTest HHD C is a compact wand-style instrument with continuous DC. The output voltage is regulated and does not change under load, with +/-5% accuracy, and a built-in certified voltmeter (crest meter, jeep meter) displays and regulates the voltage at the electrode. A strobe light and a loud audible alarm signal a holiday. DeFelsko lists conformity to ASTM D4787, D5162, D6747, D7953 and G62, ISO 29601, NACE SP0188, SP0274 and SP0490 and AS 3894.1.

Kits and ordering codes

The datasheet ordering guide lists three kits: the PosiTest HHD Kit (HHDKIT) with a Pelican Storm hard-shell case, a 72 Wh battery and a choice of 50 cm (20 in.) or 13 cm (5 in.) electrode rods; the HHD Basic Kit (HHDKITB) with a 36 Wh battery in a heavy-duty hard-shell case; and the PosiTest HHD C Kit (HHDCKIT) for continuous DC. Every kit includes a 7.6 m (25 ft) ground cable with locking connector and spring clamp, a battery pack and smart charger, a stainless steel fan brush, instructions, a hard-shell case and a long-form Certificate of Calibration with a two-year warranty. The voltage calculator offers 11 international standards: enter the coating thickness and the detector proposes the required test voltage. A press-and-hold safety trigger prevents accidental high-voltage generation, and the unit is internally sealed against creep and designed in accordance with IEC 61010-1.

Electrodes and accessories

The range of electrodes includes rolling spring coils from 4 in. up to 36 in. pipe outside diameter (HHDSPRING4 to HHDSPRING36), flat brushes from 51 mm (2 in.) to 1219 mm (48 in.) (HHDFLTBRSH2 to HHDFLTBRSH48), half-circle neoprene brushes, fan brushes and electrode rods. A handheld wand (HHDWAND) with a 1.5 m insulated cable converts the HHD to a wand-type instrument for voltages up to 15 kV. Standalone verifiers HHDVERIFY and HHDCVERIFY check the output of pulsed and continuous detectors, and adaptors allow electrodes from other manufacturers to be used. Related coating inspection instruments on this site include the Elcometer 224 digital surface profile gauge; see all portable test and measurement instruments.

Documents and quotation

The attached DeFelsko datasheet carries the ordering guide and electrode list. Please confirm before ordering the kit, pulsed or continuous output, the coating thickness and the test voltage required by your specification, the pipe diameter or surface geometry for the electrode, and send them with your enquiry so the code can be checked against the manufacturer documentation.

About brand

DeFelsko is a manufacturer in Ogdensburg, New York that has made coating thickness gages and inspection instruments since 1965. Its PosiTector line puts coating thickness, ultrasonic wall thickness, surface profile, dew point, soluble salt, hardness and gloss measurement on one interchangeable gage body. Seven Star LLC supplies DeFelsko PosiTector and PosiTest instruments to inspection teams in Oman and the GCC on inquiry.

PosiTector probes on one gage body

The PosiTector 6000 and 200 measure coating thickness, the UTG measures wall thickness, the SPG measures blast profile, the DPM reads dew point and climate, and the SST tests soluble salts. DeFelsko states that a PosiTector gage body accepts the probes of the whole range, so one body can be converted from a coating gage to a profile gage or a salt tester by changing the probe.

Adhesion, holiday and PosiSoft reporting

The PosiTest family covers pull-off adhesion, holiday detection and wet or dry film checks, and the PosiSoft software generates reports from stored readings. Each DeFelsko page on this site links the official datasheet, and we confirm the probe or model code against the manufacturer documents before quoting.
